Any Pensacola area riders?

I'll be there on vacation in a week. The family and I have been several times and I brought my road bike on the last trip. Just kind of poked around various roads.

Looking for suggestions on routes, group rides, or a tour guide.

Thanks

grew up in that area and just rode it a week ago....if you can get out to Pensacola beach there is some good riding both to and from Navarre Beach if you are traveling east and to and from Ft. Pickens traveling west on the beach. Otherwise the area isn't really a great spot for riding. Just seems the vehicles aren't used to cyclists (probably because there aren't tons) and I almost always have multiple close calls. Be careful and be sure not to speed in your car through Gulf Breeze....

one more note....be careful on the beach...winds can be brutal. If you end up traveling in one direction and you find yourself cruising at speeds you wouldn't normally ride be ready for the turn around. I've had rides where the tail wind makes it easy to go 27-30mph for miles and miles traveling east and then you turn around into a 20-25mph tailwind and you're going 6-12mph for miles and miles back.

The West side of the P'cola area also has some good riding, heading toward Orange Beach/Gulf Shores. If you are in the same area as where you bought your bike the shop may also have some suggestions on rides/routes. I bought my first bike while in the P'cola area vacationing a few years ago also!!!

BROUGHT not bought the bike on the last trip. :thumb:

I've located a shop on the web that lists a couple of group rides. Think I'll give them a call. If all else fails I've got the FL base map on the Garmin. Thanks gents.

Check out www.bikesplus.com
They have a Rides and Events link on the left that show some scheduled group rides.
