Sad news out of Oak Ridge, TN

https://www.knoxnews.com/news/2009/au...-county-crash/

John Daughtery, 77, was killed on SR58 in Roane County, TN yesterday when he was hit by a pickup truck.

If you have rode in a charity ride in the Knoxville area you've probably seen or met John. You may have only known him as I did "as the old dude that just left me in the dust" or for the locals there in Knoxville you may have known him better. Always seemed like a nice man and a safe rider.

I am dismayed that there have been no charges filed. The road is straight in the place where he was hit.

What a senseless tragedy. It seems as if I read one of these headlines almost ever day lately. If this driver is at fault I hope he gets the full allowable punishment.

I gather he was riding in a relatively "safe" area (straight road + shoulder). It's such a shame.

I'm getting tired of reading about (and seeing) idiot drivers on the roads. I hope law enforcement takes this seriously. A cyclist killed by a negligent or reckless driver is just as dead as a murder victim.
