Wheel Builder in SC/NC/GA

I'm looking for a good wheel builder within a reasonable distance of the Upstate of SC. I know some of the LBS shops will build wheels, but I am looking for good wheel builder, not a minimum wage bike mechanic. The goal is to have a custom wheel set made for my road bike that can handle my Clydeness

Anybody have any suggestions or references?

Thanks in advance.

Al built a set of CXP-33's with Campy hubs for me about 15 years ago. Never had a wrench put to them since. As true today as they were the day they were built. I'm usually between 195 and 205 lbs.
I wanted a bullet proof set of 36 hole wheels to ride daily without worrying about service. Al convinced me he could easily build a set of 32 hole wheels that would serve me well. He was right!

Al's been in the business over 30 years, that says it all for an independent shop owner.

SpinLite

dsb137,

It's funny you mention this shop. I was in SpinLite this past August (camping on Lake Chatuge) browsing around and the shop owner was talking with someone on the phone about a new set of wheels. The terms "bomb-proof" and "expensive" kept coming up. The guy sounded like he knew what he was talking about, and from your comment, that seems to be the case.

Thanks!

They just fixed my broken spoke and did a great job as usual with their service, though it was my first trip downtown for service. Already missing the Woodruff Rd location. I'll swing by and talk to them.

Mark is Hincapie's local guy and one of the few people on the planet that I trust to touch my bike. Good choice.

wheel builder in atlanta

Skip at No Brakes in atlanta. They used to be a track bike boutique only but now do all kinds of stuff. Not an incredible amount of experience years wise but plenty of volume building about 6 or more wheelsets a week. For what you are looking for I think he'd be a good fit, I've never had a problem with the wheels he's built me and I'm 6'4" 220lbs. and have put over 10000 miles on my wheel set
