New riders heading to Winston-Salem NC Thanksgiving weekend
First off, happy Thanksgiving. My girlfriend and I will be visiting her parents in Winston-Salem, NC until Monday. They live near the Hanes Mall. We have only been cycling for the last few months, both on Giant FCR3's. We're still weary to ride in the busy area where they live considering we ride in rural Ohio, so we're looking for some paved bike paths or a rural area where we could start from, like a park. I'm still combing the forums and searching the web, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi kunselman.2,
I haven't yet biked in the Winston Salem area. If I were planning to bike there, then I would probably consider Wake Forest University and Reynolds Plantation. There are probably many other bike friendly rides in the area. Hopefully someone with a little more local knowledge will post here soon. I hope that you have an enjoyable visit and get a chance to do some biking. Best Wishes.

Just saw the post: Tanglewood park is a great place to go . Try all the roads ;you can t get lost. Go in main entrance and park at vistors center on left. You can then ride bikes into park without paying. They also should have maps at the center.
Have fun and hope the rain don t catch you.

jimzman is right!...I meant Tanglewood Park ...Reynolds Plantation is the name of a golf course in or near Tanglewood Park (I think). Anyway, I do hope that you have a chance to ride while in the area. Best Wishes.

Thanks for the advice, Tanglewood Park looks like quite a place from looking at their website. We're going to try to make it out there tommorow if we can dodge the rain. It seems like a nice place to practice our falls from the new clipless pedals. :-) Again, thanks and I'm sure we'll get to explore NC as we visit every few months.

I live close to Hanes Mall. PM me next time you are heading to town and I can show you some nice routes that lead out Tanglewood Park.
