DC area - stolen Tarmac SL Pro, white w/ SRAM Red out there somewhere

Apparently the thief posed as a buyer, then turned off during a test ride with the seller and skedaddled.

I'm reposting to let people know that this bike was stolen by the prospective buyer:

It was stolen on 31 Mar in Laurel MD at about 5:15PM by the first person who responded to the Craigs List add. A guy going by Max Langley. I was giving him a chance to take an extended test ride ... he wanted to try out a hill climb. I met him, shook his hand and we set off on the ride together to Murray Hill Rd between Laurel and Columbia. But when I went down the hill, I guess he turned around and split. When I turned around at the bottom he and the bike were gone. At first I was worried he had crashed on the hill and rode up/ down/up again to check.

He claimed to live in New Carrollton and met me at the MARC station in Laurel. He is a white guy about 5'10", probably 140lbs (biker skinny), maybe 25 years old, black hair and a full but trimmed beard. He has quite a nasty scar on his right forearm down near the elbow (previous crash or surgery). He used Look pedals and Nike shoes, was wearing an old grey USPS kit and I think had a Giro helmet.

If you happen to recognize the description or see a Tarmac Pro around that looks like the one in the link below please let me know. I filed a Police report, but don't have much hope.

My original add follows:

Ridden relatively little and not significantly changed by Specialized for 2010 (other than color), this is a very good full carbon frame race bike. It is in excellent shape. I did the majority of my riding last year on my Tandem, Fixie or Mtn. Bike and didn't do as many races as I would have liked. I race on a team where we get a small discount on equipment and I'm replacing this one with the 2010 model. You get a barely used, immaculately maintained, indoor stored bike for a hefty discount.

I'm selling as pictured. The seat, seat post and wheels are the brand new units off my 2010 edition. The wheels this year were Mavic Kysrium Elite. In addition I have a brand new Specialized compact chainring set to go with it if you would like. Finally to sweeten the deal, I'll throw in a new SRAM Red cable kit.

Just so everyone knows, I'm not the owner of that bike. I just thought it would be good to spread the word about it, so maybe someone might run across it and get it back to its owner.

I had a tuba stolen several years ago. I posted about it on a tuba forum, and it was discovered on eBay about a month later -- the pawn shop that had it put it up for auction as per their standard policy. A tubist in Germany, whom I had never met, saw the eBay listing mere minutes after it went live, remembered my post, and then he and several others got the listing pulled a few hours later. It was back in my possession by the end of the day.

My point is, if word gets out enough (hopefully beyond CL and BF), maybe he'll get it back.
