Tampa Florida Cyclists: Beware The Waterhogs!!!!!

Watch out for the selfish riders hogging the water from the tanks on the trail and do not rely on the trail for your supply. last weekend for the first time I saw EMS trucks on the trail picking up dehydrated cyclists. I was unable to refill my water bottle and had to ride 16 miles without a drop to drink. Meanwhile teams of cyclists with three bottles on each frame were all over the place. Do not ride the Suncoast Trail unless you have a Camelbak or are carrying three bottles of water!

Why would anyone depend on an outside source of water?

Or as the Boy Scouts say, "Be Prepared.

Hows that old saying go? "Lack of Preparation on YOUR Part does NOT Constitute an Emergency on Mine!"

They do a pretty good job in replenishing the water coolers along the trail, but it's a matter of timing. I carry 2 bottles for longer rides and will hit the water fountains at Anderson Snow Park or SR 50 where there is always available water to refill.

I don't look at them as water hogs - just their timing was better than your's. I've hit a few empty coolers and was disappointed, but never close to dehydration.
