Shops in Key West?

I'll be visiting Key West next week, and like many people visiting there I'll want to rent a bicycle. Unlike many people visiting there, I don't want a beach cruiser -- I'm looking for a hybrid with an upright posture and at least one cage for a water bottle. I want to be able to take the stock platform pedals off and put on my SPD pedals without having the shop get mad. Any suggestions?

Good morning Generalist. Have fun in the keys! My wife and I will be there the weekend of the 18th. IMHO, renting a high end bike would be an overkill. especially if you are planning on staying in Key West. 13 miles around the circumference. We are only 6 or 7 hours away, and never take our bikes. Beach Cruiser all the way.

P.S. Don't worry about the bottle cage either. The perfect hydration comes in the form of the "Howler" at the flying monkey saloon. All the carbs and grain alcohol you need for a 13 mile ride. You can just set it in the front basket. :)

Don't worry any bike you ride on Key West, you will still might be considered a cruiser.

Just got back from Key West. Had a great time. You're right -- 3 gears would have been plenty, I just wanted a bike geometry more like the hybrid I ride at home.

A Recommendation: Managed to find a very good bike repair shop on the island called "Fixed Gears", at the corner of Simonton and Fleming. They don't rent bikes, but they do fix them well and quickly. (Rented a pair of hybrids from one of the many places down there; my husband went into cleat withdrawal; the guy at Fixed Gears basically let us rent clipless pedals for a few days, and put them on/took them off for us.) I hear tell they're also looking at doing custom builds. If you're nearby, check 'em out!
