I may very well be interested in joining you on the Key West leg. I have a few things to check on first before I commit though. We will be in Lauderdale that week and the Largo to Key West ride is something I have always wanted to do.

Sorry to say we won't be making this bike trip. Avanti was hurt pretty badly on the saturday morning bike ride. He probably won't be riding for a couple of months.

The Dr. said I can ride in 6-8 more weeks
6 broken ribs
broken collarbone
fluid on one lung the first night but it went away by morning
had surgery on the collarbone last monday, the plate will help the mend
thanks for your thoughts
John

I was sprinting 35-40 mph when my right pedal had a mechanical failure, which caused me to fall and tumble with the bike. I was knocked unconscious at the scene and was taken to the hospital via ambulance. When I arrived at the hospital, I underwent CT scans and x-rays to see what sort of damage I had sustained. I learned I had six broken ribs, a broken collarbone and fluid on one of my lungs. I was admitted to the hospital, and was released the next afternoon with pain meds and a sling. The following week I met with an orthopaedic surgeon to discuss options. Upon viewing the x-rays, he showed me that my collarbone was unlikely to heal without surgery. Monday the 13th of December, I underwent surgery to repair my collarbone.
I was the only person involved in the crash

Man I am really sorry to hear that. I hope you heal completely and fast. Do you know what caused the failure. I am not one for willy nilly lawsuits but have you looked into any possibility of holding the manufacture liable for your expenses?

Post again when you're healed up and planning on making this Florida trip. I'm in Jacksonville but have extended family in St. Pete area, so I might be interested in joining you for a day ride.

Well I am glad you have insurance. As far as it being any worse I guess the only thing that could be worse would be for you to be pushing up Daisey's. Seriously I hope you heal quickly and completely. How much damage did you do to the bike and what pedals were you using?

Get better real soon, and do this ride when you can. If I can schedule it, I'd love to join in.
