Anyone ridden this? What's the terrain like? Any other suggestions for riding around Nashville?

From Nashville it is mostly rolling hills, very pretty road. Its nice for cycling, there are no commercial vehicles. Fairly low traffic in general, mostly people out enjoying the scenery and maybe a few RVs.

Also here is the Harpeth Bike Clubs ride list (South and West Nashville) http://www.harpethbikeclub.com/index...es/cuesheetmap
and the Veloteer Club web site (East Nashville) http://veloteers.org/

also Trace Bikes is a quarter mile from the begining of the Trace and has group rides on the Trace, see:http://www.tracebikes.com/calendar.cfm/frm/18412

How are the roads from the Natchez Trace into Franklin if I want to make a diversion?

Pretty nice for the most part. Its a fairly popular area to ride. You can take SR96 back to Franklin or you can get off at the next exit at SR46 and go through the Leipers Fork area which is pretty nice too.

There is a short organized ride route that you might like if you want to stay in this area, you can even park your car at the Warner Parks. 50 mile route: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united...e/157820573672 and 25 mile route: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united...e/532313864873 Though the strech along SR100 is a bit hairy due to TDOT rumble striping the shoulder. I might detour down Sneed Rd and come back to Vaughn Rd that way.
