Okay...... I actually planned a ride today... The plan was to switch the stems from my old Gary Fisher mtb to the newer one that I'm setting up as a touring bike. Plan FAILED..... I stripped the star nut in the steer tube. Sooo it is either take it to the shop to get it fixed tomorrow... Or order the tool and new star nut for less money and fix it myself in 3 or 4 days (I hope).... I ordered the stuff....

Yeah.... I could ride one of the other bikes... but kinda bummed don't feel like it now..... DOH!! Ohhhh yeah... and stupid luv bugs are out..... (thinking of excuses) .... I'm good at that....

I'll post my "no ride today" report early.
My wife and I are going to FL next week. Not taking a bike.
Visiting my autistic son that lives in a group home in N FL. It'll be his 31st birthday. The next day we're trying a little snorkeling at Ichetucknee Springs state park. It's about 15 miles SW of Lake City and about 20 miles NW of Gainesville. If any of you are over that way just look for the old folks trying not to drown.
After that we're heading to Crystal River to visit my wife's 86 year old aunt (inn a nursing home). I hope she knows who we are. We visited her for about a week last March. I got to take my bike then and did the Clean Air Ride.
After a day or two with her we're heading down to Honeymoon Island Beach near Dunedin. My wife doesn't get out in the sun and I have a cyclist's tan so we'll really stand out there.
After a few days of relaxation at the beach we'll be heading home.

Hope you have a good trip. We love Ichetucknee! It shouldn't be too crowded at this time of the year. Crystal River is another nice place but we haven't found too many places to ride there. Just north of there is the Withlachochee Bay Trail. Not very long but IMHO one of the most scenic. It's only about a 10 mile round trip so maybe next time you come...
Haven't been to Honeymoon Island but it's on our list of places to go.
Have a great time.

well, no, I have been on the bike yet (other than the trainer in the living room). But, yesterday the PT told me that he'd never seen someone recover as fast as I have. I already have full extension. Cane went away last weekend. Just have to wait on the strength to come back. Tonight I told hubby to load up the bikes after work. Going to go over to the Rec area out near the airport. Lots of roads and very little traffic. Gonna see if I can at least get a mile or so in. Keeping fingers crossed.

Congrats on your progress.
Be careful and don't overdo it at the airport.

well, no biking for me for a few days. Guess I overdid it. Really very sore today and when I went to PT he told me to hold off on anymore biking. He's afraid I might start slipping backwards. Told me it was ok to get on the trainer but only for 5-10 minutes for now. trying to keep ice on it as much as possible today.

Not that your in a race... but slow and steady wins the race..... or something like that... I really have to think like that too when I get the bike loaded up all tour like.... When I first start off i'm all gung-ho and riding like I do without a bunch of weight on the back. That's ok on a shorter ride, but not so much on a longer one. Bike is still busted... waiting on the parts... And luv bugs are pretty bad in this area.....

I haven't ridden since Labor Day Saturday because I had a bad crash and broke two ribs. Looks like a couple more weeks before I can get back in the saddle.

Nope, and not even on the trainer.
PT says I've over done and we're going to back up a little. Today they put some kind of stimulator on it and I could barely walk when I left. Having to ice it every 2 hours again. Had more pain in the last few days than I did a week after surgery. Back on paid meds temporarily for now. Can't believe this as I was doing so well. PT says that I'm still good @ just over a month since surgery. Guess I am just bummed since I was feeling so good. When I left I said "I can still get on the trainer at home, right?" Nope....have to let the knee calm down first. He says it's trying to tell me something and I need to listen. Doesn't sound like I'm gonna make the Oct 8th Breast Cancer ride at this point.

You never know you still might make it... Maybe after a break for a few days your knee will spring back stronger than before.

Crossing my fingers for you......

No ride today. I spent the day pressure washing the house, carport, driveway, and patio. Got lots of sun.
Got a new jersey in the mail today. I'll be wearing it on tomorrow's ride to Stone Mountain.

only riding I've been doing is on the spinner @ the gym. I have managed to get in about 25 miles in on Monday and today. Hopefully this weekend I'll get a ride in. Work keeps getting in the way and it gets dark too early to ride after work!

I actually wore the rim out on my first mountain bike (real bike that is). I think I had about 7k miles on it. I could not figure out why it felt like the brakes were pulsing when I pulled on them. The surface where the pads ride was cracked and wore though in one spot, and getting very thin the rest of the way around the rim. That is when I learned about the wear grooves on some rims. I was REALLY close to total rim failure ....

<sigh> ..... I got all kinds of excuses for not riding and some of them might even be valid.... But the bottom line is.... I haven't made riding a priority lately. Because when I do make it or when it is a priority I FIND TIME TO RIDE... or MAKE TIME TO RIDE....

I feel better, have more energy and have less tress when I ride.... And I know that..... but I still get in these funks were I just don't make time to ride.
