I guess I wasn't suppose to ride today. When to top off the tires on the Litespeed and the rear was flatter than flat. :notamused:
Got the Felt down and the inner cap on the rear presta valve broke so I couldn't get any air in the tube. grrrrr!!
Set up the bike stand and started working on the bikes.
Two tubes later the bikes were ready to go but it was getting warm so decided to clean both bikes (they were well past due).
Cleaned both bikes and lubed.
No ride tomorrow. Going to my grandson's graduation in Orlando.
Maybe Thursday. :)

The B&B is open again. :o Our yoga teacher is back for another visit. This time she brought her niece and nephew and 3 bikes. :thumb:
She wanted me to teach the 8 y/o nephew how to ride. I raised the seat (it was all the way down) to the correct height (almost at the minimum insertion point) gave him a few instructions and a push and off he went. He's been riding around the neighborhood by himself all morning -- 3 times already. The problem with him learning was the seat height and the fact that the bike (Next brand ) is almost too small for him. I told the aunt to tell his mom and dad that he needs a larger bike for his birthday (a few months away). I'll give her all the particulars before they leave.
They just left for the beach (Pine Island) and we're planning a "group ride" tomorrow on the Withlacoochee Trail.
If you see an old guy wearing bike attire on a Litespeed riding with a straggly group dressed in whatever and riding x-mart bikes, that will be us.

How did I not ride thee, bicycle, (in the last two+ weeks)? Let me count the ways!

A storm came along with lots of hard rain,
Followed by a heat that causes real pain
I was building and wiring stuff in the man cave
And mowing and weeding like a poor field slave.

My wife got me messing with a used Intex pool,
But when I filled it, it was lopsided, and that just ain't cool!
So after 3 days of toil, the end finally came
With the pool in the dumpster and me on my cane!

Next, the back of our roof is fine with no leaks,
But it's black, and that's hot, so you know what that means,
It's up on the roof without toys or a sleigh,
With 5 gallon buckets of of white stuff that weighs
Like they melted down a factory-full of K-Mart bikes
And poured them into lead-lined buckets! Yipes!

Now I'm halfway done with that project, you know,
But when it's all over, it'll be time to mow
Again with this 2 1/4 acres of grass
That's turning out to be such a pain in the a$$!!

And THAT'S why I didn't ride my bicycle today!

I was hoping to get in a ride today for Father's Day but I was sick as a dog last night and still sick this morning. Been sitting in the recliner most of the day eating chicken soup. :(

Porter20 06-16-13 07:58 PM

I had it all planned today - up early & out the door by 7:00. A quick 40-45 miles and home no later than 9:30 for a full day of Father Day activities. I had eaten breakfast, tires pumped, water bottles filled & kitted up when my 8 year old daughter comes out of her room complete with a wrapped present begging me to open the gift before my ride. And even though she said I should go ride ("because Daddy its your day") - I couldn't in good conscience do that. My fitness and diet were put on hold today and instead we settled in to watch some Tour de Suisse.

Of course on a school day - I practically have to drag her out of bed at 7:45 but I gues today was special.

RonH 06-19-13 08:25 AM

My 11 y/o grandson has been here since Sunday afternoon. His dad didn't bring his bike, just his iPhone and compound bow. So no riding this week. :(
He's going home (Orlando) this afternoon so tomorrow I'm hitting the Suncoast early and hard. Gotta make up for the lack of riding.

Ex Pres 06-21-13 12:03 PM

Still resting a broken ankle (since 4/26). I have been on the trainer @ low resistance for short time periods, however. I hope back on the road soon.

cc_rider 06-23-13 02:40 PM

Pneumonia.

RonH 06-25-13 09:14 AM

My 13 y/o grandson is here this week without his bike. :( He's here for archery camp, etc. And I'm having a colonoscopy on Friday. Oh joy.
When will I be able to ride again? Next week???

Ronno6 06-25-13 04:38 PM

After 137 miles total for Friday - Monday, I needed a rest day.
I felt pretty whupped by the last 15 of yesterday's 42 miles.
I also mowed and trimmed 3 yards today.
Weight falling off pretty good now. YEA !!
Back at it tomorrow.

stumpbumper 06-26-13 08:15 AM

my 13 year old pooch had some surgery yesterday, so im not able to ride today. I need to keep an eye on her

RonH 06-30-13 02:23 PM

My 13 y/o grandson went home yesterday. I brought his bike back home with me for some TLC. He's coming back next week (July 7-13) for a week of riding and swimming.

I got up this morning after the 10 minute rain shower woke me up. :o Checked the radar and decided to go for it. Got the bike ready and laid out my cycling clothes. Took a quick shower and -- it started raining again. Checked the radar for the Suncoast Trail area and it was all lit up with red, yellow, and dark green. :notamused: Put the bike clothes away  and turned on the TdF.

When is this flippin rain gonna end?

I intend to let it rain for 40 days and forty nights and wait for the sewers to back up! (With a tip of the helmet to one of Bill Cosby's comedy albums!)

Seriously, though, welcome to the tropics. We get this stuff fairly regularly. That's why you need a THIRD bike you're NOT in love with! My primary single road bike qualifies in my case, though, and I still haven't been able to throw a leg over it in a month. Watcha gonna do??!!

apollored 06-30-13 03:19 PM

Am I bad for not going for long bike rides every day?

I do ride my bike for errands and doctor visits etc but I dont go for long rides unless out with my bike group.

Does that count?

Onegun 06-30-13 07:01 PM

Sure it does! Every time you mount up counts!

In most places here in the states, though, it's not only impossible to ride for errands, there are usually only one or two routes we can use to get someplace for a ride at all. Most Europeans would probably be very puzzled by the number of riders/rides that have to be started with our bikes on the back of cars. The "drive to ride" syndrome! So the "long ride" is to make up for the inability to get in lots of short rides.

It's not the bike, it's me. I did enough riding in the rain when I was bike commuting to work in Atlanta. I'm a fair weather cyclist.

OK, ok, I know it hurts to admit that to yourself, but still, never EVER pass up an excuse to get another bike! :thumb:

RonH 07-11-13 04:48 PM

No ride yesterday. My grandson was still here and we did other stuff. They left after lunch today. While we we're shopping this afternoon the check engine light came on (and is still on) on the car that hauls the bike. Will I ride tomorrow (take the other car)? Not sure. No ride Saturday because I have an appt at 9AM to get the car checked.
Maybe Sunday. :o

I was really looking forward to 15 miles on the Greenway after work today, instead I got stuck in a meeting that started an hour late and lasted an hour longer than scheduled so I didn't even think about leaving work until after 7pm and with a little one at home that goes to bed at 8pm Greenway was out today, hopefully I can get in a ride tomorrow.

No riding today or for the next few days. We have been packing and transporting small loads of stuff to the new house. We have the kitchen and bath set up so after the movers deliver our furniture on Wednesday we'll be "home" for good. More small loads tomorrow. I may get a chance to ride Thursday or Friday. Gotta get ready for the Rails to Trails ride.

I'd rather have a broken arm than move! A broken bone only hurts for a couple of days, and moving is usually weeks of back breaking agony.

Also, the arm is completely healed in 6 weeks, and I don't know ANYONE who, from the time they started packing the first box until they unpacked the last, was completely finished in that amount of time!

I used to know a country girl when I was younger that drove a pickup truck with a front license plate that read,
"Yes, it's my truck, and
No, I won't help you move!" :)

We're finally settled. :)
I was sick Wednesday night and Thursday so no riding. I'm back to normal today but thought I'd put off riding until Saturday.
Stopped by Inverness Bicycle and Fitness. Great shop. Here's there Facebook page (no website yet). https://www.facebook.com/InvernessBicycle
I chatted with the p/t mechanic (Bob) and the owner (Sherry) for over an hour. Bob invited me to a group ride tomorrow (Saturday). Hope I can keep up. :o

If you're interested in stopping by here's a map.

Well, I didn't make it to the group ride. I would have to get up before 6AM and be at the Hernando trailhead by 7:15.
Last night I asked myself again why so many retired folks feel the need to get up way too early to go for a ride? When you're retired you're not on a schedule. So, needless to say, I slept in until 7:50 and will be heading out shortly on my own group or no group ride.

RonH 10-31-13 03:02 PM

No riding today and looks like no riding tomorrow. Appointments.
Saturday if the rain comes later in the day.
