VDOT seeks input on new Bicycle Policy Plan (Virginia)

VDOT is looking for public commentary and suggestions concerning their new Bicycle Policy Plan - a sort of bicycle initiative for promoting bicycle use in the state and incorporating considerations for cyclists in new construction projects, tourism advertisements, commuter facilities, etc.

There's a lot more to it; I'd like to suggest that you go to the second link provided and follow that to the 47-page .pdf of the policy, which goes into great detail and provides a lot of useful information.

Commentary is open until September 17th. Send your suggestions to

Thanks for posting this! We're pretty disappointed that the state paid a lot of money to a consulting firm for a plan that says, essentially, nothing. At the very least it should reflect VDOT's own bike-ped policy, adopted in 2004. So we're asking that everyone submit comments to hold them to that. We'd like to know what you're thinking too, so we've set up an email address for you to copy us:
