Bike Shopping

Welcome Richard.
What bike(s) are you thinking of getting to replace the stolen bike? Stop by the Southeast Regional subforum and say hello to the locals. Lots of NC folks there

First, "hello, locals".

Second... I used to ride a Univega Gran Turismo. Loved the smooth ride, although I never did take it cross-country. Never cared for MTB, or for upright riding for that matter. I'm looking for a "single bike" solution to handle my weekend rides (road), and 3-days a week commute on days it's not freezing.

So... a cyclocross? I dunno... So much has changed since I used to ride.

I'll probably buy a bike in Feb/March time frame, to avoid the possibility of starting, then quitting like a baby if it gets too cold before the serious cycling fanaticism kicks in.

A cyclocross bike is a great choice for commuting and weekend riding. How will you carry your stuff when commuting? Rack and panniers? Backpack? Messenger bag?

I'll probably use a messenger bag or backpack until I can get a deal on rack/panniers. I'm not going to be doing major shopping on the way home from work - at least, not initially, so I don't need to haul much stuff around.
