Tour de Chesapeake
May 18
Mathews County, VA
https://tourdechesapeake.org/
Very flat ride. Mathews county is surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay on 3 sides.
Very pretty, rural countryside. No 4 lane roads in the entire county. A lot of loops out to beaches overlooking the bay. The county puts on a good party for the event.

Looks like a nice event with plenty of Bay scenery....and like you say, flat. I doubt that I can make it due to plans on being elsewhere in May but, I will keep this on the radar for next year. I do plan on riding the Seagull Century again this year and it was a lot of fun last year.... and also pretty flat. The shear number of riders is overwhelming.

I've done this several times when it was sponsored by BikeVirginia. Will not be doing it this year, but I recommend it. Ride as much as you want, and there's lots of company with riders of all different experience levels.

I missed last year due to a work conflict. Looking forward to it again this year.
Not a real heavily attended event (bit over a thousand I think) but after 10 years of riding Bike New York (around 40,000 riders) it's refreshing. I love the low-traffic, rural roads.
I like the multiple loop arrangement. Any 3 will make a metric and all 4 would be about 90 miles. Not hard to make a full century.
For us it is also a family trip. My wife is from Mathews, so we use the event to visit her relatives and spend a couple of days in Williamsburg. One of the rest stops is run by some of her cousins.

We'll be there. Have a place down on Horn Harbor off of 737. Great place to ride. Figured we would head down the light house and then back up to Gwynn's Island and back and see what after that.

Final bump.
Unfortunately both my work and my wife's have gotten in the way of us traveling this weekend. Luckily I had not registered in advance so I'm not out any money. Will get a local ride in this evening and again tomorrow.
Try again next year.
