Ft. Lauderdale going South, how to cross Port Everglades/Airport
I hope someone can help me. How do I best go from Fort Lauderdale (Beach, SE 17th Street) down to Hollywood on a Road Bike.
Am I even allowed to go on US1/A1A (at the contruction side?), not that I want to take it.
I tried Eisenhower Street, but it just goes to the Port. Then I tried via the Airport (Perimeter Rd), but it was also closed due to construction.
I am sure I am not the only one who could go North on A1A with eyes closed, looking for alternatives.

Things to do in Florida: Florida Rambler discusses this issue. Great website.

It seems to me that if you could get to NE 7th Ave, this would take you south to NE 10th St. ie. Griffin then you should be in the clear. What a horrible area to get through.

If you want to bypass the airport/construction on US1 take 17th on west past US 1 then past the hospital to south on sw4thAve.Then west on 84(heavy traffic but wide outside lane)to just past the interstate. Then get off the bike and walk it across to ravenswood rd exit off84 on the other side(or u=turn at the next chance).Take Ravenswood(traffic calmed) south to Griffin or Old griffin to pick up Dania Beach Blvd/A1a.Actually I used this routing to head on west on Griffin out to Weston/Sawgrass etc.If you want to avoid 84 you can take 4th on south to sw 34th(I actually don't like this road as narrow with a lot of truck traffic to the airport) then north to sw13th which becomes Perimeter Rd and then take that on around the west side of the airport to Griffin or to ravenswood at the big bridge at sw42nd.I actually used to cut through Port Everglades as a shortcut to Miami/Keys but after 911 they definately tightened up security there.I haven't been this way in awhile as I live in Palm Beach Co now but personally I would just continue south on US1 to A1A taking care at the construction and lane merging areas.I have done this one or twice in the past.

There is really now great way to get through the airport. US 1 has lots of pavement blocked off to cars, but still, not a fun section to deal with. A1A does not go through the port and US 1 is a road I prefer to avoid pretty much anywhere in South Florida

Well, if one didn't want to deal with Rt1 or similar roads at all the best solution would be to take tri-rail from Ft Lauderdale to Hollywood(Griffin and Ravenswood).Be sure to stop by Pro Bass Shops right behind the Hollywood station.
