Cycling Trip - Harrisonburg

Driving down from Toronto next week to do some cycling around Harrisonburg. I wanted a destination that wasn't too far, had some hills, and good bike culture. This seems like a good fit!?! I've been able to gleam some information on the area, including routes, from Shenandoah bike shop and Alpine Loop Gran Fondo. Temps look ok (to a Canadian ) with a forecast of 6-15c (I ride all winter so that's great).

I'm still deciding between my road bike with skinny tires or a beefier touring bike with 32mm tires (if there are nice gravel roads in the area I may opt for the touring bike...though the road bike is itchin to get out).

Any advice, links, etc., from folks who ride, or have ridden in this area?

Thanks!

How firm are you on Harrisonburg as your destination?

A little further south will put you in the vicinity of some nice rails-to-trails rides. The New River Trail State Park is very nice, along with the Virginia Creeper Trail and a few others.

These would definitely require the beefier touring bike.

I'm firm. Hotel booked. Had discussions with an LBS about routes. This is far enough of a drive for me. I'm looking for mix of road and gravel and believe this will work out nicely.

Thanks though!
