Lynchburg Virginia?
I have been traveling to Lynchburg on weekends, and I would like to do some riding there. I'm staying fairly close to E.C. Glass High school. Trying to figure out what the best way out of town would be, or should I just drive somewhere and park? If so, where?

thanks, I've been to that YMCA a couple of times, I could drive over and park there. I think I will email the organizer and see if she knows any reasonable routes to get there on a bike.

I'll be doing SOTR (my third time.) I lived in Lynchburg for a year back in 93-94, but wasn't riding a bike then. My impressions are that in general the town itself is not great for riding. But you have some beautiful countryside. You're only a few miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Heading south from Big Island on the BRP takes you up the "Thunder Ridge" climb, about 13 miles of 5-6% climbing. Heading north is much tamer, but still very pleasant if not as scenic. You could also enter the parkway at Peaks of Otter and head either direction.
