Connecting the Silver Comet Trail to Atlanta's Beltline

There is a growing effort underway to complete the Silver Comet Trail, and connect it to Atlanta's Beltline. The section would follow the remnant of the Silver Comet track, still owned, but unused, by CSX, which extends from approximately the intersection of South Cobb Drive and the East West Connector in Cobb County, to a point near Collier Road in the Buckhead section of Atlanta. The old Silver Comet track terminates near an existing Beltline trail.

I just want to chime in and say I fully support this effort and will volunteer whatever time/resources I can offer. I live up near Gwinnett, and have long fantasized about a greenway system linking up my area with the SCT. With the Western Gwinnett Bikeway, the Buckhead stuff, Trails along 400, and the Big Creek, there are more and more trails happening on the north side. I'd love to see them all get tied in together. Wouldn't that be amazing? Also, the Firefly Trail near Athens is a viable spur... Someday....

That's great to hear. I live intown and have never ridden on the Silver Comet Trail. I find it hard to load up my bike to go riding when I have so many neighborhoods to ride through and interesting things to see in the city.

I looked at riding to it and scouted out a route and did most of it on a Sunday morning. I have the idea in my head to do a little touring via the Silver Comet. My parents live in Alabama and I would love to show up one day via bicycle.
