That said, personally, I'd probably shoot down Briarcliff/Moreland to Ormewood and just use that over to your office. The twisting around off of moreland still puts you dealing with the railway beside Dekalb Ave. Limited crossings and a nasty set of turns on/off Dekalb would make Moreland be a good bit easier. Traffic is a little heavier, but it's Atlanta. Traffic is just the way it rolls.
Sounds a lot like SoBo in Denver in some ways. No, it doesn't seem any more sketch than anywhere else, some of the scariest times are the drivers near Emory.

I don't really have to deal with the light rail any more than I would on Moreland/Briarcliff by going up Whitefoord/Oakdale. I would think Moreland/Briarcliff would be terrible -- all the aggravations of driving in traffic, but on a bicycle.

Just ran across this post. Glad to hear you are doing the commute. I ride from Ormewood Park (I usually just tell people I live in Grant Park because it's easier and they are practically the same thing) to Emory about 2-3 days a week. I do cross I-20 on Moreland, than promptly get off that main road and take Oakdale north and south for the majority of my ride.
