The Booty Loop is a really popular loop around Queen's University. It's only 3 miles, but there are almost always other cyclists on it. Safety in numbers. It's hard to describe the course, but you can find in on Strava or 90% of any roadie worth his salt in the area will be familiar. (This weekend there's a big charity ride on it, FYI)
There's a MUP that follows the light rail south out of the city. From that you can hop on Old Pineville which has a cycling lane for a few miles.
Another popular option is to get on East Blvd and take it west, all the way to the airport. Theres a road that runs north/south boarding the west side of the airport. It has a nice wide shoulder. Then you can get on Dixie River Rd and do a loop. If you want a decently long ride, do a few laps of the Booty Loop, head out on East Blvd and hit the airport. Find your way back.
Then there's always weeklyrides.com for all the organized rides in the area.
Let me know how it goes! I am pretty familiar with rides around uptown. Personaly, I'd like to find some good rural routes.
Bike arrived today, but I did not make it back into Charlotte in time because of traffic, so I will be going to pick it up tomorrow and get it on the road sometime. I am super pumped to ride it for the first time. Thank you for the routes, I am familiar with the booty loop, but didn't know about the other ones, so thank you for those. I will hit you up soon when i am ready to make that trip to airport.
