Tour de Big Bear

Anyone going? This will be my second year. Highlight of the ride was the bacon at one SAG stop!!! Then ribs at the next! I did the 50 last year and doing the 70 this time. Hopefully no rain this time. I heard many riders doing the century got caught in the rain and some were treated for hypotermia and other ailments. Let me know if you're going, maybe we can meet up.

Mulling it over but my wife gets back from a business trip the Friday before, not sure how excited she'll be to have a family "vacation" at big bear so I can go riding.

*I had planned to do this with my friend Kathy... she is still riding and I've decided to go and enjoy the mountain air (although I can't ride)... my concern, has anyone heard if the ride is cancelled because of the fire?

Good question. Last i read it was 60% contained. Most of the fire was near the Onyx summit so it may effect the 70 and 100 mile tours. Also will make the air quality horrible. Im hoping it will be fully contained by ride time.

I'll be going along with my wife. She's riding the 70 mi. while I'll be doing the century.

Yes, last year the rain was intense and very cold. Miserable, actually.

Hope to see you all up there! I'll be wearing my green CAL Triple Crown jersey and riding my White/Black/Red KHS Team bike.

Rick: Watch for me... I can't ride but might be "sagging" for a friend doing the 70... basically I will be bored waiting for you so might just go out and about on the route to watch the cyclists having fun...

Weather is supposed to be awesome.... I am so jealous!

The weather was perfect for Tour de Big Bear! Glad you and Kathy could come by our cabin on Friday evening. I got 111 miles out of the TdBB since I rode to the start from the cabin and back to the cabin after the finish.

On Sunday Lauretta and I went on a fun mountain bike ride on 2N10 with occasional short bits on Skyline. We got to watch the down-hillers go flying down the mountain at one point. Looks like scary fun to me; I'd probably be seriously hurt (if not killed) trying that!

I got to say the ride was beautiful; glad I had a chance to participate in some way even if by car. I was so impressed that JAckie and Kathy did the 70; the climbs were tough. I was even more impressed when later that day we drove out of BB on 38 and realized all the downhill the century riders did and then had to crawl back up... good grief.

Thanks again for very some gracious... beats sitting in the motel 6 room longer than necessary!

As to riding N210 and Skyline... Next time Kathy does it you ought to go with... I am hoping by next Fall I can do it again as well.

True Pam, The climb up that long road from Barton Flats to Onyx (8.5 mi.) seems infinite when I'm riding it. Thankfully it's not too steep but yes, it does seem to go on forever.

Glad you and Kathy were able to come by the cabin too! Great times even though you can't ride at this point. Sat. after the century, we had guests for dinner: Lauretta (whom you met), Rosanne, Dee and her husband Rob and Penny. That was great fun too!

On Sunday we took Moonridge to Clubview to 2N10 so it was pretty easy to get to. As easy as it looks on paper, it does have over 2,000 ft. of climbing so we were both quite tired after the century on Sat. and the mountain bike ride on Sun.

Good times on a wonderful weekend riding through beautiful scenery!
