on her way to work in downtown LA. Apparently the perp cut her off first (gotta get that extra 5 yards!), and then struck a cyclist in an intersection. I don't really have a lot of details but I'm wondering if it will show up in any local news. The cyclist was (by appearance) probably homeless. The car hit the cyclist and took off, but apparently came back after about 400-500 yards. I'm not sure how you do that in downtown LA, but there was randomly a cop right there at the time, so hopefully they'll throw the book at the driver. My wife stuck around to give her statement, as did some other fella in a pickup.

Maybe the perp came back because of the presence of the cop. Fleeing an accident with injury is automatic felony, whether at-fault or not.

I used to work in downtown LA many years ago and even back 10-15 years ago the traffic and congestion was pretty bad for anyone on a bike. I've seen more than 1 messenger fly over a hood. The funny part is they used to wear elbow and knee pads and just get up get on their bike and keep pedaling lol. I watched one guy get t-boned and left a huge dent in a new Mercedes. The guy must have had some seriously strong wheels because he just got up and kept going. I have heard it has gotten a LOT worse since then so it's sad to say, but I'm sure it probably happens quit often.

Messengers are crazy and frequently ride in ways that endanger everybody... wrong way on a 1-way, you name it. Of course, it doesn't mean I want to HIT one though.

They were in the left most right turn lane going west on 6th and turning right onto central. Since 6th is a one way - you have to turn left or right at that intersection. The silver looking car that's in the upside down V part of the intersection is right where the lady was when she struck the cyclist, who was apparently riding across in the intersection. I have no idea if there's pedestrian controls there nor do I know if he had a green man, red man or whatever.

Over the past three years I've seen a gradual increase in the number of bike commuters to DTLA. I see messengers ride dangerously and I see bus and car drivers unwilling to share the road. However, for the most part, I don't feel particularly unsafe on my commutes. I hope the injured cyclist is ok, and I applaud the witnesses who stepped forward to provide statements to PD.
