Carpinteria Vacation question
Heading down in October for a family vacation; should i bring a bike? Obvious answer seems "yes" but what should I bring? My beater for just tooling around town and beach and leave it a that? Or is there some opportunity for good riding on my mountain or road bike?
I looked on Strava and sometimes hard to tell if good cycling routes in the area? For me, I need low traffic roads for the road bike, don't mind climbing at all but I don't like sharing the road with cars whizzing by and all my focus in on not getting run over. The road bike is my preference but if easily accessible "good" fire roads in the area, I can dust off the mountain bike.
Any advise much appreciated!

Road bike... lots of great cycling around the area. Look for local bike club ride sites for route information.
CVC CONEJO VALLEY CYCLISTS |
San Luis Obispo Bicycle Club - SLOBC
Not alot of car traffic; good wide bike lanes... also check out Ventura and Ojai. There is a great bike path that takes you from Ventura up to Ojai and back...so no traffic (other than cross-traffic).
A couple of event rides cover the area - check for route slips" Cruising the COnejo, Ojai Century, Coolbreeze... probably more...

Carpinteria is quite a distance from SLO, or even the Conejo Valley. Best to check in the Channel Island Bike Club cibike.org They have route slips and rides that cover this area.
There are some great climbs, flats....everything. Our Saturday group is going around Lake Casitas this weekend.
