Las Virgenes to the beach. How is it?

I want to head from the valley to the beach, and Las Virgenes seems a lot less twisty, and wider than Topanga Canyon Boulevard. How is that route?

the easiest route through those mountains. relatively flat with decent shoulder and
good sightlines for autos. the drawback is heavier/faster auto traffic but i wouldn't
categorize it as an unsafe road.

It would never be my first choice. Tons of traffic, few cyclists. I think the shoulders are marginal in many places, not to mention the tunnel.
Topanga from PCH pretty crowded too, of course. Depending upon where you want to end up in the Valley, you could jump over to Old Topanga for at least some reduction in traffic and a nice climb.

Stunt to Schueren to Rambla Pacifico is near zero traffic down to PCH. Great views too.

isn't rambla pacifico the road with the gated stretch about a mile from pch to keep out the plebians? if memory serves, it is.
besides negotiating the gates at top/bottom, it's a helluva climb back to the top of stunt/schueren and stunt's no picnic for many.
the adjacent las flores variation adds to the frying pan/fire situation. i didn't get the vibe, reading between the pixels, that the op
was looking for a climbfest but i could be wrong. it wouldn't be the first time this morning and it's still relatively early.

definitely does have great views tho.

Las Virgenes is no fun at any point. It's about like Kanan. High speed traffic, small shoulders full of gravel and cracks, etc.

Encinal, Mullholland, Decker, Latigo are all fine descents to the ocean.

I haven't done it, but I understand Tuna Canyon is a wonderful descent with a long stretch at the bottom being a big wide one way road DOWN.

If you want technical/challenging, take Las Flores, Tuna or Decker.
If you want civilized, Encinal is an easy descent with little traffic. Mulholland too.

I rode Las Vigenes and it was a great time. I didn't feel worried 'til I got on PCH (I really didn't like cars passing that close to me). I tried Piuma to Tuna Canyon, and it was a little too steep and I definitely couldn't get in the zone, and at one point my brakes started skidding a bit (just glad no one decided to be a rebel and climb the road as I was descending).
