Hi all. Been riding since the beginning of November when I finally bought a real bike (Trek 5200 on a clearout sale since its being discontinued for 2007).

I was a pack a day smoker for about 16 years and have cut down significantly to the point where I'll only break down when I'm utterly trashed and have lost all and any semblance of willpower. It's just too bad I don't get drunk more often Aaaaanyway, I started to really pack on the pounds because of it and just decided that I should get off my ass and do something.

During the weekday evenings I usually go for a small loop covering PCH from Warner (at the Jack 'n The Box) up a little past Brookhurst where the Santa Ana River Trail starts up. On weekends I'll usually ride up to the Santa Ana River and take it as far up as I think I can go and then curse myself on the way back when my legs are shot and have to deal with a strong headwind. 3 Weeks ago was the first time I made it to the end, though I swear I almost didn't make it because the headwinds were killing me on the way up.

For now I'm just a newbie flatlander with absolutely no climbing skills, though I'm trying to change that by looking for some new areas with some beginner hills to try out on the weekends. So if you guys see what appears to be a dark, skinny looking Asian dude with a fat belly, scrawny legs and struggling up an overpass (or on the up through an underpass)...yup thats me.

Cheers,
Nacy

Thanks Gretzky! Hope to see you out there as well. My rides down PCH lately have been quite nice, lots of friendly people out there. Yesterday was no exception as nearly EVERYONE gave some kind of acknowledgment.

Welcome all! It sounds like you are riding much more than I am, and I am jealous!

Heyya...

Name's Joel. Riding -- usually one of two directions from the San Fernando Valley (most of the time I ride from home rather than drive somewhere). Option 1: down to S. Monica to Redondo & back or PV. Option 2: Mulholland Highway to Agoura. I mix up the specifics along the way.

When I'm more pressed for time, I make runs through Griffith Park. Also started doing more organized rides this past year -- Cool Breeze, Ojai Century, Rosarito. Starting to prep for the Solvang Double in March (since it occurs the day before my birthday and I can deny my aging with my first double).

Been riding pretty regularly for almost 20 years, but didn't start the longer rides until about 5 years ago.

Hi my name is Jim and I ride and reside in Ventura county.
I was turned onto this site by the infamous Beanz"y".
I'm strictly a road rider. I completed the Cal. Triple Crown in 05 but didn't ride as much in 06. I'm looking forward to riding more this year hopfully getting back into shape for the Grand Tour Double in June.
I'm married with 3 kids...manage a commercial nursery...and love working on old cars...there you've got it in a nut shell.
See ya on the road...Jim S.

Hi, my name is Mike and it is good to be here. On the weekends I will ride from So.Redondo to the marina or Santa Monica, with most of the trip on the bike path. On a weekday I will just ride around Redondo. Here is a pic. of my rig.

It has a alloy Chorus rd. I have a new Centaur fd, I polished a Centaur crank. I have a Chorus cassette and Veloce brakes. I am waiting on the bottom bracket. It wil be done with new parts but still retain the vintage look. I robbed the Fulcrums off my Bianchi, I may remove the stickers from them. It should a nice ride when it is done.

Pleased if you permit me to join your forum. Most times riding in foothills Tujunga, Sierra Madera or Arcadia. Sometimes ride San Gabriel River to the Seal Beach or Santa Ana River path to the Newport Beach. Would enjoy sometime riding with your groups if OK.
