Ensenada Greeting

New to B.F. and adding intro here to SoCal Forum. Also coming out of a 5 year bicycle hibernation.

Located 2 hours south of SD, on south side of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. My perspective on the report of crime gone wild in Mexico is that it has been greatly exaggerated.

Backing down to 120-150/week after getting up to 300/week for my first race prep in 5 years.

Pumping up World Cycles in SD. Owners Alex & Deya have been a big help to me.

Hope to meet SD/OC cyclists up there or down here.

Morning All,

Just moved to the IE area just recently (Loma Linda area) from Northern Cali and been riding around on Barton Road. Any group rides in the area on Sundays?

Hi all. My name is Joe. Been mountain biking all my life, grew up in northern cali and now call San Diego my home, been here 7 years. 31 years old for another week. Just got my 1st road bike so I can commute to work and back 32 miles round trip. Also just signed up for my 1st sprint triathlon yesterday, I was very excited after my 1st ride to work . I hope to get into the Death Valley Century ride in October as well. Looking to change things up, been doing marathons for the last few years and completed Boston this year. Love being outside, exercising, watching the sun rise. I'm excited about this new adventure of bike commuting

My name is Jason, I don't have any pictures of me on my new bike yet. I ride all over the Inland Empire, from Lake Arrowhead, to the Santa Ana River trail, all the way out to Newport and Huntington. I'm one of the few people that does not wear any fancy bike outfits. I wear shorts and a tee shirt. I ride a lot up here in the mountains at 5,000+ feet. I try to ride every day to work, unless it rains, or the fog/clouds roll in.

Hello There my name is Mannuel I've been riding since 2007. I ride a torelli montefalco. I used to ride a lot in santa clarita but now I ride in the SGV. I love climbing even though I'm somewhat heavy to be good at it at 5'11" 170. I like to ride to baldy village to get a beer. Most of my rides end in a beer... I like going on long ride so that after one beer you're so dehydrated that ONE is all it takes. I'm always looking for someone to ride with haven't found many people yet. I work odd hours because I'm a server so I get to ride a lot during the week. Let me know if you want to ride.

Hallo All.

My name's Wes and I live in Tustin, but I bike mostly in Irvine. My wife and I are new to biking (as adults, anyway). We both have hybrids (me a diamondback insight and her a mongoose--forget the model, but it's the one with disc brakes), but I think I'll get a cheapo road bike to fiddle with very soon. One of the main reasons I wanted to bike was to commute to UCI (about 9 miles each way). I also feel motivated since we're fortunate enough to live where the weather is perfect for biking nearly everyday...

You may want to get a "comfort bike" or just something with a straight handlebar + road-bike-like tires for the commute so that you can see the traffic easier. I ocasionally commute to UCI from the Tustin Metrolink station.

Depending on what you bring, you may want to also get a rack & panniers instead of using a backpack.

Zian-

That's exactly what I've got--the Diamondback I got has 700x32 tires, upright bars and I DIY'd a backpack into a pannier.

Hi Cedric,
My wife and I, both road cyclists, were not too far from you last month when we were visiting a friend in Montceau Les Mines. A subsequent trip to Lausanne to visit another friend was postponed due to lack of time but we try again in a year or so. The terrain and the scenery in the Bourgogne region is gorgeous, too bad we didn't take our bikes. Next time!
Carlos

I ride around fullerton on a cheap little fixed gear. Usually just ride to get to where i need to get, nothing longer than 20 miles usually... unless I do a beach ride! which i'm always down for.

Just moved to Loma Linda from Irvine.
I live next to VA hospital on Barton
Not sure where there are places to bike to and usually don't feel like biking because its so hot here during the day time.
Are there any relaxed group rides I can ride with to explore the area?

Recently moved into an apartment by my campus at Cal Poly Pomona, and I am about to start using a bicycle as my main form of transportation as well. The only problem so far is that because of a messy divorce, I never learned how to ride as a kid! So, I am learning now every day on my dad's old bike. Just came to this forum for any tips and to get inspired.

Hello to all! I am new to cycling, rode when i was a kid but recently got back into it when all my buddys started riding fixies. I picked up an awesome bike (imo) from my uncle. It is an InnovativeCycleEngineering or ICE frame, it has a Mavic Carbon fiber fork, Shimano 16 spoke wheels, shimano crank and some high end italian brand components which i dont know much about, according to Bumstead Bicycles in Ontario, CA, MY LBS. I havent been able to find much info on the company or anything else having to do with I.C.E. for that matter, but i guess i got an awesome deal. Im excited to start riding, mostly for my health as im about 6' 240lbs. Not grossly outta shape but do want to get more fit and work my way up to advanced riding situations maybe even marathons i.e. Tour De France, hey i can dream right! haha Well ill start my riding this weekend when i get it back from my LBS, in the Inland Empire and will branch out when my experience and comfort level goes up. I hope to join some of the groups soon and will be lurking around BF regularly

I'm the wife! I found that the mongoose was much too upright for the kind of biking we were doing so now I'm on a (men's frame) GT tachyon 3.0. I love it! You'll spy us mostly on the Mountains to Sea Trail and in bike lanes around Tustin and Irvine (and drooling over Bianchi road bikes and clipless pedals at area bike shops). My future biking goals include a century ride, getting up to 300 miles a month, and perhaps RAGBRAI (we're from the Midwest). I used to run long distances including marathon and half marathon so I'm not a stranger to endurance events. For now I'm enjoying where I'm at (the beginning) and learning there's a lot more to cycling than just getting back on the bike like I used to when I was a kid.

Maybe we'll see you on the MUPs- be safe out there!

Hey everyone! My name is jerry and I'm a newly married 23 yr old guy. I live in whittier and ride mainly around the area (brea, la habra, fullerton, San gabriel trail) and i've been riding for about a year now. I stopped riding due to having to give up my bike a few months ago but I got a new bike and I'm back! Don't have any pictures as of yet but I'll be sure to get one eventually. I'm hoping to do a century next summer, 2011, so if anyone knows of any in the Greater los angeles/Orange county area let me know. I'd also love to get some riding buddies who are in this area too!

Hey all, Michael here, from Claremont. Mostly ride out this way now, also San Gabriel Mountains, and the SGRT. In the past (90s) would mostly be seen on the roads in the San Gabriel Valley, Griffith Park, Angeles Crest, Big T., etc. Road on a Basso or Origin8, mountain on a KHS or Felt. Anyway, a new and an old photo here:

Hello ALL,
My name is John and I live in Carlsbad, I recently caught the bike bug, it was a big bite. I just purchased my first road bike. The Scott CR1 Comp 2010. So far so good, I really enjoy how light this bike is. I would really like to find some riders to bike with that live in Carlsbad area. I am planning on biking across the U.S. in April-May. My plan is to complete the journey in 45 days averaging 60-75 miles/day. I have been riding 30-35 miles about 4 days a week since I started last month. I would like to plan a trip up to san Clemente through camp pendelton some time soon...

Cheers!
John
