Hello everyone, my name is Ryan and I'm 19. I love biking and ride all over the SFV area. Locally I bike Northridge, Porter Ranch, Granada Hills area. I ride a 1979 Nishiki Custom 12. Biking is a lot of fun and it's a great pass time.

Hi there,
I am David and I live in Orange. Right now I am riding around on a Burgundyish Diamondback Comforty/commutery/hybrid bike. If I ever have money I plan on getting some sort of road bike. I've been cycling around for almost 4 months now and am really enjoying it. I have been commuting most places I can on my bike instead of driving and have barely put any gas in my car lately. I ride around the hills on the East of Orange and the various bike trails around here. I also commute to Costa Mesa via Red Hill or SART.

Hello everyone my name is Abraham and I live in West Covina . I'm new to the whole cycling thing. I recently purchased my first road bike, a Torelli. I've been riding it around my house getting used to it, but I'm real excited to start exploring and meeting new people and learning more.

Hello everybody.
My name is Al. I bought a used Univega Via Montega Hybrid off craigslist last year. It helped me lose quite a bit of weight...I realized I liked riding bikes, so recently purchased a brand new Fuji Absolute 1.4. I'm not ready to give up the old Univega...and I'm thinking in the not to distant future I might need to add a road bike, and a Mountain bike.

I ride exclusively on paved biked paths...I don't ride on the street because I don't want to become a hood ornament for an Escalade. I live closest to the LA River, and I ride that frequently, but It's not really my favorite path. I like the SART and SGRT best. I also ride Coyote Creek and The Marvin Braude trail...basically anywhere in the local vicinity

Hi. I'm still Tim, I still live in La Habra, and still ride mainly in La Habra Heights. I sold the Trek in the post above, bought a Lemond Poprad, sold that, got back into BMX (my childhood love), realized that I missed road cycling, bought a Mercier Galaxy from a buddy, wound up with my original Trek frame and fork, rebuilt it, and now I'm riding it again.

Here's me doing BMX:

And here's my rebuilt Trek:

It's good to be back!

She decided that she needed a more effcient bike to do the ride and bought a nice Cannondale rode bike, not real top end but decent. I had always wanted to get into biking so I inherited the Hybrid and we started riding together. After a short time I bought a road bike. We ride mostly in the Redlands area, Greenspot road, or loop around through MEntone , upto Redlands Hopital etc. We have also done Yucicipa, San Timoteo Canyon and Loma Linda. And of course when we can we will do the SART, upto Huntington Beach. And go for a beer at HB Brewing Company.:thumb:http://www.googleiclouds.info/control/images/apple

Matt, most recently from Newport Beach, Irvine and Tustin, so I have traversed the Back Bay, San Diego Creek and Peters Canyon a few times to say the least. I typically combine trails to form an ad hoc loop from there with the occasional excursion north and south to the surrounding cites. Definitely the most underrated in the area is Santiago Creek, especially south of Hart Park. Its kind of for good reason as it dead ends in Santa Ana near the Discovery Science Center and underneath the 5 is pretty sketch. The perennial plan is to extend it, along some with restoration, to Fisher Park and from there via street to the Santa Ana River.

Gloomba 03-18-13 09:26 PM

Haha. I am real and it seems like that other guys post is gone. I have since upgraded to a well used (dented) cyclocross bike that is green with red handlebar tape.

Hello, all.

New here. I live in Studio City. I picked the place I live because of the easy access to the mountains, the bike paths and Griffith Park. Guess that means I'm addicted. Been riding for about three years. This year I've had a lot of time off and the cycling has gotten pretty serious, 4-5 days a week. I've been racking up the miles big time and love it (my legs have never looked better!). I'd love to find some groups to ride with.

hey my name is Earl, Long Beach, just got into road biking and got me a Corsa r16 as my daily bike and lmprove it and lose some weight. Also my wife got a Micargi rd7 and we both plan to ride it around Downtown LB where we live.

Chilero 08-12-13 09:36 AM

Welcome to Long Beach, Earl!

My wife and I moved to LB to be near the bike path along the L.A. River. We ride a "there and back" 24 mile trip every Sunday and once in a while do a 52 mile loop along the L.A. River, then Rio Hondo, then east across the dams at Whittier Narrows, then south along the San Gabriel River, then north along a short section of Pacific Coast Highway, then along the beach bike path back to the L.A. River. 52 miles and only a handful of those on streets, the rest is dedicated bike path.

If we're really adventurous we do the same loop but head north once we get to the San Gabriel River, then over the Santa Fe Dam, continue the bike path all the way to Asuza where it ends. Then head back south along San Gabriel and rejoin the original loop. That's a pretty healthy 70 miles.

For daily rides, in case you ever decide to get into racing, there is the Hughes Park Ride (also known as the Carson Loop), an informal criterium training ride Monday through Thursday starting around 6:30 PM (varies) for a half-hour warmup, then 1 hour of racing. Mondays and Wednesdays are the slow days where it's a little more organized and at least the first 20 or 30 minutes it's good for riders who want to know what it's like to be in a peloton. Link: http://www.strava.com/activities/1105760 You should make a point of going out there at least once just to watch, particularly the fast day on Thursday.

Long Beach, as you've figured out, is pretty flat. However there is good 'ol City of Signal Hill, land-locked right smack in the middle of Long Beach. If you want to get some hill training don't miss the variety of grades that are available, from relatively long gradual slopes as Cherry Ave south from Wardlow Rd. to the ultra-steep switchback of Skyline Drive heading east from Cherry.

See you on the trail!

Carlos

Dylan Roberts 08-18-13 11:29 PM

Hey everybody! I'm Dylan Roberts, from Santa Paula, Ventura County. I've been a bike rider for all my life, but got into road cycling about 3 years ago, I have completed one century (up highway 33) and plenty of various rides around where I live. I haven't ever had time for long rides that last more than one day, as I have school and no money at the moment to pay for those rides. I love to ride whenever I can and I hope to meet some of you along the way!

bknaus 09-06-13 04:46 PM

Hey everyone, my name's Ben and I live in Visalia, CA. I guess it's barely Southern vs Northern CA... I'm an engineer at Hellwig Products making leaf springs, sway bars, air bag kits, etc for truck, RVs and muscle cars. I've always ridden some to commute (since about 3rd grade) and in college got into downhill in San Luis Obispo. Now that I'm out where it's flat I have caught the road bike bug hardcore. I bought a CAAD 10 in May and have over 1000 miles on it already. Going to do the SLOBC Lighthouse Century 9/28 and ride with some friends SLO to SB in October. Otherwise I ride in the Sequoia foothills, around the valley, out by San Luis Obispo and out by Tahoe...

Rokh Hard 12-16-13 12:12 PM

good monday morning!

did my first group ride sat morning. there are three ride groups that leave the local trader joes at 7:45am (easy pace), 8:00am (moderate pace), 8:20am (fast pace). i missed the 7:45 group by a few mins, but was encouraged to ride the peloton on the 8am group, approx 75+ riders. hung in there for about 13 miles after which i got dropped and hung up on the wrong side of the lights. the peloton disappeared into the bowels of irwindale/san dimas. no chance to catch up as i had no idea of the area or the route, and not able to keep pace at this time. had lunch with some nice folks from the 745 group at heirloom bakery. good conversation, heard the story of the rider who got taken away on a stretcher....bike/bike encounter. turned out being a 40mile day average speed 16-17 for me.

lessons for the day -

1) bring bananas and gu type stuff. also need endurance drink in bottles.
2) need proper riding clothing gear. got caught out in the mid-day heat/sun with early morning gear.
3) dont blink, and get stuck out behind the peloton.

looking forward to next sat ride!

ps - yes i pose. you should see me do it.

I was on the "fast" ride and saw the two dudes collide. I'm not sure if it was just user error or what went down because the guy on the right swerved WAY hard to avoid an obstacle on the road. He pretty much rammed the other dude and they went flying.

The ride isn't that fast, once you ride more and more often you'll be able to hang on no problem!

Welcome to group riding its a blast! Stay safe!
