Hey everybody!
I just recently located to California from Northern Georgia. I still consider myself a little southern girl! I picked up biking while I was looking for a job here in LA. While I'm employed now, I still try to hit up the bike as much as I can during the week. I normally ride the Marvin Braude sp. trail from Playa Del Rey out to Manhattan Beach/Hermosa Beach. I'm a complete newbie with the whole biking scene but have realized that I love it! I have a simple mountain bike that I picked up on Craigs List when I moved out here. If anybody is looking to ride with a newbie in this general area or knows of any other cool paths nearby....hit me up!

if u take the bike path on the beach from marina to hermosa watch the speed limit and as you might already know, theres a short strip at the strand where u need to walk your bike when it gets busy
if u want to ride something more serious there are a few people that ride palos verdes loop
welcome to California, Val!

Hi my name is Gary. I have been riding since May to get fit and drop weight. I ride solo around town and also most sundays with the West LA Cycling club they are on meetup.com. They ride from Marina Del Rey to either Redondo beach or Palos Verdes. I have road and hybrid bikes. I am looking for people to ride with weeknights 8pm or later or Saturdays. Sundays i already have that WLACC ride i can do. Weekdays before 8pm i am tied up. I am riding 10-12mph pace which is too slow for most group rides. I went on a midnightridazz.com ride and they were about 17-18mph so I dropped out. IF anyone knows any group rides 20 miles+ in distance that are 10-14mph let me know. Other rides i sometimes do are the bike rides put on by the Flying Pigeon bike store (google that and add Los Angeles). But these are not so many miles. The Spoke N Art ride once a month is about 15 miles roundtrip and the Brewery Ride is about 6 miles roundtrip so those arent so much of a workout you can email me at g a r y in la and then at a o l dot com

Hi, I'm Ed from Ontario but living in San Berdu for now and hopefully going to be moving to the Irvine area soon I've been riding for a few years now and this year started doin triathlons but want to focus more on cycling racing. Crits and some road racing. I ride both the upper and lower Santa River trail along with various routes around Upland, Claramont, and Baldy. I'm tired of riding by myself so if anyone is down for weekend rides hit me up. Also if anyone out there is lookin to add another person to their team roster let me know. I'm 28, fit, and am very competitive in nature. I may not have been riding as long as most but you can count on me to train as hard and as smart as I have to so I can kick some a$$. Sorry for my lame post that sounded more like a cheap personal add.

New to California...residing in Long Beach

Hey!!!

Just relocated to Long Beach and was looking for some local ride groups. I am completely new to the cycling world and recently picked up a Specialized Tricross. I currently just ride around town but hoping to branch off to hit up some of these trails.

Hi, HDShoots. Check out the San Gabriel River bike path, on the east side of the city. Near the 405 it turns from the concrete bottom to a natural river, and there's some surprising nature right under the 405! Here are some of my shots from there. You can take it all the way down to the end in Seal Beach, or you can branch off and go around Alamitos Bay on the Long Beach side and go around Naples and Belmont Shore. You're lucky to be a new rider in Long Beach--if you didn't know, Long Beach has become a pioneer in putting in bike-friendly infrastructure and doing a lot of things to make life easier for cyclists (cycle tracks in downtown, bike corrals for parking, bicycle-friendly streets, etc.) I wish they had all of that when I lived in the LBC!

I've been a long-time lurker on the site here, but just now getting active posting. I live in Santa Monica, have been riding for a long time. No organized rides or long rides, just riding around the city and trying to replace trips by car on bike. Recently got a trailer so I can take my daughter with me, and my wife has a bike, so we can ride to breakfast on the weekend, etc. I also ride to work a few days a week.

Here's my ride--an early 1980s steel Univega Nuovo Sport. A hand-me down from my dad. Love this, but looking to get a new bike eventually...

Awesome! Thanks for the sound advice. I hear that LB has come a long way and I love the infrastructure out here. That actually solidified my decision in purchasing a bike. I was actually looking into moving out to Santa Monica. How is the area there?

Of cities in the LA area, Santa Monica is probably second to Long Beach in terms of being bike-friendly. There have always been a fair amount of bike lanes here, but with the new bike action plan, Santa Monica is actively looking to take a big step forward--green bike lanes to make them more obvious, separated bike lanes, bike-friendly streets. The remodeled Santa Monica Place mall also has a new Bike Center in it, offering secure monitored bike racks for everyone, plus lockers and showers if you buy a membership--would be really handy for people who work in the area.

Hello, My name is Michael and I am a newbie to riding. I ride a 2011 Specialized Tarmac SL2 and do so in and around the Chino/Chino Hills area. This used to be nothing but cow farmers, so there are a lot of empty road to ride on. In the Chino Hills area, where is pretty much newly developed, there are alot of hills to ride on. I am actually training to ride for the Aids Life Cycle in June. A 545 mile ride over a 7 days period. WOW that sounds like a lot when you look at the whole number.

Hi, My name is Minh and I'm a biking addict in Bellflower. Started last year on a mtn bike and switched over to road bikes with a Giant defy 3. I frequent the SGRT almost every weekend as far north as the end of the trail past the Dam. And as far south as towards PCH to HB. Every now and then I go over to SART and doing a flying run to see if I've improved. My goal this year is to train and maybe do some events later this year. For the most part I ride solo and occasionally with a co-worker or two. Looking to meet new riders and maybe find someone to train and improve my fitness with. I've considered joining groups, but prefer doing things at my own lesiure, hence most of the solo rides hehe.

Hiya. I'm David. I'm down in Aliso Viejo. I used to hang out in the commuter section when I was bike commuting, but haven't done that for a while. Needed to post in here, so I figured I should formally introduce myself.

I do early AM road riding on the weekdays, and on weekends I try to cram in some solid MTB riding at either Aliso Woods or Laguna Wilderness.

My current rides are a Specialzied Comp 29er and a Scattante road frame that I used to have all ultegra, but have since franken gruppoed into an all-day hill rider with a compact crank and an 11-32 cassette. If I were smart, I'd just go all SRAM Apex and be done with it, but... yeah... I'm a budget cyclist...

I love bicycle touring, but as a father of three, my camping adventures tend to include the wife and kids. I also dig long fun rides, and am currently signed up for my third year in the King Ridge Granfondo.

I should add I'm a garage freak who loves spinning wrenches, and recently restored a couple muscle bikes for my two oldest girls.

Other hobbies include standup paddleboarding, camping and restoring old motor scooters, a passtime I've loved since 1984.

Gallo from San Diego

The 56 bike path is my most frequent ride. Being right next to my home makes it conveinent for a quick 20 training ride.It also acts as my path to the coast which I can go north(toward the Cardiff Kook) or south(Torrey Pines) from Del Mar depending how the wind blows. El Camino Real to Fairbanks Ranch and up the three witches is also favorite for 25 or La Costa to Rancho Santa Fe for a 35. My occasional fifty is Scripps Poway Parkway to Highland Valley and back on Pomerado Rd. For dirt it is climbing Black Mountain or Lopez Canyon and back or just cruzin and exploring PQ Canyon

Hello - Shawn in Long Beach area. I recently purchased my road bike (12 Trek Madone 3.1 Apex) and prior to that was riding my FX. I commute to work when possible on my FX from the 605/Carson area to the LB Airport area. I ride on the SGRT frequently but have branched out to rides in the HB/Newport Area and have done the Back Bay Loop a few times now.

Howdy, Noel from the Arcadia area. I'd mainly been riding around my neighborhood and up to the top of Santa Anita til I finally got tired of my crappy old bike and got a new one (Cannondale Super Six 5) since then I've been hitting the Rio Hondo and SGRT doing out and back on the Rio Hondo or a loop of the two trails. Really Loving my new bike compared to the old one! The old one really did suck... but it was only $50, so what can you expect!
