Hi- Brian from RSM- relocated from AZ and have only been riding in OC for about 6 months. Love the scenery and the weather, and cant wait to discover new routes. While most of my time is spent on a road bike, I also dig hitting the dirt, and cant wait to explore the abundence of trails in the area.

Hello everyone. I'm Davy from Rosemead (san gabriel valley). Just purchased a Takara Kabuto single speed road bike. I'm thinking of heading to San Gabriel River Path once I feel more comfortable with the bike.

Hello, my name is Eddie. I ride mainly around Castaic and Santa Clarita. I've had my Jamis Satellite Comp about 2 months ago. I rode for a while, years ago, then sold my bike. Now it's time to get back on and get in shape. I love the ride of the frame, hate the components. Might already be time to upgrade.

Hey everyone. I am Tyler. I am in Orange, Orange County area. Since the beginning of summer I started riding a lot more often, at least one ride a day. Right now I'm mainly using a Specialized Hardrock but I hope to get a nice road bike in October. I ride the Santa Ana River Trail pretty often. If anyone around here has a group or wants to explore some new trails let me know. Thanks!

I took a breakof 21 years from the sport and I just got back on the bike and it feels so good, I hope to meet people on the road make new friends, after 21 years away, I consider myself a rooky.

Hi there,
I am David and I live in Orange. Right now I am riding around on a Burgundyish Diamondback Comforty/commutery/hybrid bike. If I ever have money I plan on getting some sort of road bike. I've been cycling around for almost 4 months now and am really enjoying it. I have been commuting most places I can on my bike instead of driving and have barely put any gas in my car lately. I ride around the hills on the East of Orange and the various bike trails around here. I also commute to Costa Mesa via Red Hill or SART.

Hello everyone my name is Abraham and I live in West Covina . I'm new to the whole cycling thing. I recently purchased my first road bike, a Torelli. I've been riding it around my house getting used to it, but I'm real excited to start exploring and meeting new people and learning more.

Hello everybody.
My name is Al. I bought a used Univega Via Montega Hybrid off craigslist last year. It helped me lose quite a bit of weight...I realized I liked riding bikes, so recently purchased a brand new Fuji Absolute 1.4. I'm not ready to give up the old Univega...and I'm thinking in the not to distant future I might need to add a road bike, and a Mountain bike.

I ride exclusively on paved biked paths...I don't ride on the street because I don't want to become a hood ornament for an Escalade. I live closest to the LA River, and I ride that frequently, but It's not really my favorite path. I like the SART and SGRT best. I also ride Coyote Creek and The Marvin Braude trail...basically anywhere in the local vicinity

Hi. I'm still Tim, I still live in La Habra, and still ride mainly in La Habra Heights. I sold the Trek in the post above, bought a Lemond Poprad, sold that, got back into BMX (my childhood love), realized that I missed road cycling, bought a Mercier Galaxy from a buddy, wound up with my original Trek frame and fork, rebuilt it, and now I'm riding it again.

Here's me doing BMX:

And here's my rebuilt Trek:

It's good to be back!

Matt, most recently from Newport Beach, Irvine and Tustin, so I have traversed the Back Bay, San Diego Creek and Peters Canyon a few times to say the least. I typically combine trails to form an ad hoc loop from there with the occasional excursion north and south to the surrounding cites. Definitely the most underrated in the area is Santiago Creek, especially south of Hart Park. Its kind of for good reason as it dead ends in Santa Ana near the Discovery Science Center and underneath the 5 is pretty sketch. The perennial plan is to extend it, along some with restoration, to Fisher Park and from there via street to the Santa Ana River.

Hello, all.

New here. I live in Studio City. I picked the place I live because of the easy access to the mountains, the bike paths and Griffith Park. Guess that means I'm addicted. Been riding for about three years. This year I've had a lot of time off and the cycling has gotten pretty serious, 4-5 days a week. I've been racking up the miles big time and love it (my legs have never looked better!). I'd love to find some groups to ride with.

Welcome to Long Beach, Earl!

My wife and I moved to LB to be near the bike path along the L.A. River. We ride a "there and back" 24 mile trip every Sunday and once in a while do a 52 mile loop along the L.A. River, then Rio Hondo, then east across the dams at Whittier Narrows, then south along the San Gabriel River, then north along a short section of Pacific Coast Highway, then along the beach bike path back to the L.A. River. 52 miles and only a handful of those on streets, the rest is dedicated bike path.

If we're really adventurous we do the same loop but head north once we get to the San Gabriel River, then over the Santa Fe Dam, continue the bike path all the way to Asuza where it ends. Then head back south along San Gabriel and rejoin the original loop. That's a pretty healthy 70 miles.

For daily rides, in case you ever decide to get into racing, there is the Hughes Park Ride (also known as the Carson Loop), an informal criterium training ride Monday through Thursday starting around 6:30 PM (varies) for a half-hour warmup, then 1 hour of racing. Mondays and Wednesdays are the slow days where it's a little more organized and at least the first 20 or 30 minutes it's good for riders who want to know what it's like to be in a peloton. Link: https://www.strava.com/activities/1105760 You should make a point of going out there at least once just to watch, particularly the fast day on Thursday.

Long Beach, as you've figured out, is pretty flat. However there is good 'ol City of Signal Hill, land-locked right smack in the middle of Long Beach. If you want to get some hill training don't miss the variety of grades that are available, from relatively long gradual slopes as Cherry Ave south from Wardlow Rd. to the ultra-steep switchback of Skyline Drive heading east from Cherry.

See you on the trail!

Carlos
