Is CyLowe97 our honorary Southern Californian?

Or just living vicariously through us

Or is he really living in SoCal and been lying to us?

I don't know which it is, but I certainly don't mind his presence.

I'm totally living vicariously through you all!

But then, you all will have to live vicariously through me, as I'll be on the ride where the ever legendary Hipcycler knocks out his first century on Sunday. It's all good.

caligurl, I'll run across the street and pick you some corn. Unfortunately, the farmers don't put the sweetcorn near the roads, so it might taste kinda funky. Most of it is for feeding cattle...

BTW, I am about as not So-Cal as it gets. Borned and bred in the Midwest. Grewed up in the mean suburbs of St. Louis, MO, and steadily worked my way north in Illinois along I-55 through college (Peoria) and then work (Chicago) and now work/family (Chicago burbs). Lots and lots of corn. And soybeans. Corn and soybeans.

Woah! Have you ever seen his arch-rival, his nemesis: THE KNAVE?

Ha! The KNAVE.

Nope, haven't seen the Knave. Apparently the Knave stalks the streets and MUPs of Milwaukee, where Hip lives and rides regularly. I have ridden with Hip a couple times in the Kettle Morraine area of Wisconsin, but apparently the Knave doesn't ride around there.

I'll have a camera along on Sunday and if for some reason the Knave is on the Cream City Cycle Century out of Waterford, I'll try to get a blurry Bigfoot-in-the-forest kind of shot of him to post.

Yup... when I drove through Iowa on my cross country road trip, the radio news made almost no mention of the NASDAQ, but it included lots of analysis of corn and soy futures. Once I reached Nebraska, the financial news switched over to hog futures.

Hmm, I've never shared my 2003 road trip summary with my BikeForums family, probably because I wasn't a cyclist back then. For anyone who cares, here's a nice long summary (now removed).

At mile 240, having made excellent time, I decided to make a detour to Cooperstown. It was a very scenic detour, meandering alongside a beautiful lake. There, at mile 251, I briefly visited the Baseball Hall of Fame. I like baseball, and I often wish I didnít give up Little League baseball for orchestra when I was younger. I was never very good, but I really enjoyed the game.
uh oh..... homesick alert! this is the area i grew up! central new york... in the mohawk valley! we're even an exit off the thruway! lol! (herkimer)

cooperstown IS gorgeous! (as is the finger lakes region you came upon next!)

jschen, great outline of your cross-country travels. You passed near my current house on US-20. I'm about right where it stops being 4 lanes and becomes 2-lane rural about halfway from Chicago to Rockford.

BTW, on the original topic, I'd be honored to be an honorary So-Cal.

And an FYI on that jersey... Yeah, it's too cool no matter which one you all come up with. A few of us in what got dubbed the BFNIC (Bike Forums Northern Illinois Chapter) have been working on a jersey of our own. Unfortunately, it's not as striking as chimivee's MIG red-star, but once we get a mock-up done in a month or so, I'll be glad to share it with you all (If I can get Psimet2001 off his duff to complete the artwork, that is!.... )

Jason, after reading through your travelogue, it made me think of a few books that you may or may not have read. William Least Heat Moon's Blue Highways and John Steinbeck's Travels with Charley in Search of America

CyLowe, heard of the first book, but never read either. And I know where you're talking about near US-20. In a way, my US-20 trip really began in earnest around there since it finally wasn't just a minor route more or less right next to I-90. Before that, it was basically as if I was taking I-90, but forcing myself to get off the freeway more often to see things.

caligurl, yes, I went to Harvard.
