Good point, James. I am bringing my camel back and may very well use it. I'm also bringing 4 gallons of water and one extra liter for Lee (just reconfirming, Lee, ). With all my big talk about drinking and partying, I may be the biggest disappointment of the evening. I'm concerned with dehydration!

Oh, and by the way, I have an extra camel back if anyone wants to borrow it. It's a little larger than one would hope on a bike but it would work in a pinch.

temps should be in the mid 70's so I don't think we'll we slurping water out of the bottles. But I'm going to bring my 50oz camelbak+ the two bottles, just in case I or someone needs it.

If someone has one of the racks that attach to the seatpost, I don't mind carrying water bottles in a bag or what not. I'm sure the weight won't slow me down too much.

Forgive my ignorance, but are we not going to dealing with some altitude? I'm usually more parched in that case.

I'll carry lots of water. My 50 oz hydration bladder is leaky, so I'll bring my 100 oz. And two bottles. No way I'll drink all that, but maybe it will help out someone who's marginal in water supply.

I can't recall what the ride mileage or the elevation is.....Thought it was around 3k ft of climbing.

Are we doing the loop or the out-and-back?

Madmike is out, so my MTB is being strapped onto the rack!
WOO HOO! Sunday MTB ride!

By the way I only know about five tents right now, so let me know if I need to plan for more (2 sites, 4 cars, 6 tents), or should I get a third site so that we can have up to 6 cars and 9 tents?

The link that James (chimivee) just posted has some ride details in it. Mileage is ~65 miles with ~4500 feet of climbing. That's the out and back. The loop will have same mileage with 1000-1500 feet of add'l climbing.

If I remember correctly, the campground is at ~4400 feet. ??

I think maybe 3 sites for Friday night (5-6 cars):

1. extort/m.e.
2. fixer
3. chimivee
4. Tiff/Brandy/PBryant1
5. jsigone
6. bitingduck (?)

And 2 sites for Saturday night (1-4 cars):

1. extort
2. chimivee (maybe)
3. jsigone (maybe)
4. Tiff/Brandy/PBranyt1 (not actually spending night)

Sheesh, that took a long time to figure out.

there's water at the west entrance and there's a circle k or somthing like that at the corner when you turn on the highway...

with the mileage being the same... i turn around and go back after key's view cuz it keeps you off the highway (65 mph... well.... you'll see when you come into town if you come all the way to 29 and don't enter the park in JT)

i've never had an issue with water doing the full loop

mark, right now the plan for loop or out and back is up to each individual rider.... those that don't want to go all the way to key's view can turn around at any point and head straight back to luckie park (or wait at the jumbo rocks campsite, i'm assuming.. til other turn arounders come on the way back down? i normally stop at jumbo for a tinkle break... ya... TMI! lol!)) those that want to continue through the park and come back via the highway can do that (you MUST ride single file on the highway!)

for me.... since their is an option... i choose returning through the park to stay off the highwy 99.9% of the time... but that's just me!

tiffanie asked about coming in the cottonwood entrance versus using 62 to the north entrance (or JT entrance) here was my reply:

the road into the park is slow and twisty from the south entrance..... it does take dramatically longer! however it is very pretty.... (speed limit on 62 is 65 except through the towns... and straight.... in the park it's between 35 & 45 and twisty!)

so that said.... if getting there in a hurry is your goal.... come on 62 and head in from either joshua tree or 29 palms.... however if you want to see more of the park.... go ahead and go in the cottonwood way if you have the time.... you'll got by cholla gardens.... very pretty!
i'll be gone most of today and check to see if you have any more questions when i get home.....
