Okay...I have a decision to make. Wheelsets for my new crotch rocket:

Should I use the Bontrager Race X-Lite Aero's

or the Dura Ace 7801's

I'm leaning toward the black ones, because you know what they say about "once you go black..."

Let's all go aero and we'll be a really fun group riding Palm Springs this year (or any other rides with strong cross-winds)!

I think Caligurl has been using the DA one.

No likey the non-aero X Lites?

If you're looking at the 7801 and not the 7801SL, here's a good price:

I already own them both...but I want to know which to put my 10sp cassette on and to do up with new Mich Pro2Race shoes.

It's a relatively flat course, so if the winds aren't too bad at the start, I'd probably be on the Spinergys. If the winds pick up, it could get interesting.

Take pics of your bike both ways and we'll let you know. That said, I'm a bit partial to the paired spoke look.

It might be decided for me...I just found out I have a buddy that might buy the DuraAce's for about 4/5 of what I got the entire DA groupset for.

Here's another stupid conundrum: The Michelin Pro2Race tires aren't black...they're dark gray. I normally ride Specialized Armadillo Elite All-Condition's which are all black...and was looking for the new Armadillo Elite Roubaix (which, allegedly, have much lower rolling resistance but are just as flat-protectant), but couldn't find them in stock anywhere...so I went with the Michelin's...but they're gray...and that just isn't cool.

They actually don't look too shabby mounted. Unless you've mounted them and think they look shabby.

I faced the same dissapointment when my Pro Race 2's arrived, I thought they would be black. I put them on a couple of days before the BA Preview ride, and I've been very happy with them. Once they get a little worn and dirty, the gray doesn't show as much It's time to check out ProBikeKit and order some more.

Herb - I can't imagine the conniption fits the OCP crowd would have knowing I used a Sharpie on my tires.

Volt - They're mounted (had the use them on the fitter's trainer yesterday) - they look shabby-chic. At least nobody vomited as I paraded my gray tires through B&L yesterday. Well, someone vomited, but I think it was because of my unshorn legs.

Matt - Build isn't done yet. Just got the cables yesterday, so will finish tonight and MAYBE have pictures tomorrow. I'm doing 70+ on it on Saturday, so will have pics before the road spits all over it.

OC - I'll probably just keep them 'til they're too cut up to ride, then replace with the Roubaix's. We'll see. I'm really more concerned with flat protection. With my Armadillos, I never really concerned myself with flats at all.

I have a set of those Armadillo Elite Roubaix's on my bike now. They're ok, nothing outstanding, probably better than the all weathers though. I think my old gatorskins rolled better, but the sidewalls on the conti's are awful. My old gatorskin rear tire had a sidewall blowout at around 600 miles. Previous gatorskins would have cracked sidewalls by the time the tread wore down.

A requirement for my OCP application are Hi-Res photos of bike porn and a close-up, full-bike spread in front of a white garage door, which may or may not be on an actual garage. Apparently some OCP'ers, who are not blessed with a white garage door on an actual garage will install a white garage door on their living room wall to capture the magic.

an in-use bicycle is vehemently frowned upon in the OCP community.
