I approve of what you've done to the place...

Wow. So I'm gone for a few weeks and I come back to a cool new regional forum for SoCal (and, of course, all those... other areas got one too, heh.)

So what's been going on? Someone catch me up. How many TdSS rides did I miss? Last one I did was the SART ride.

For various and sundry reasons I haven't been able to ride much for the last few weeks; yesterday and today I was finally able to do my normal pseudo-hilly route through La Habra Heights. It kicked my ass. I'm so out of the cycling loop, I haven't even looked at the last issue of Bicycling (the one with Flandis on the cover -- what's the latest on that, by the way?)

Welcome back, Tim!

Everybody's been wondering where you've been...I think some thought the worst.

Good to know you were just drunk and passed out on a beach somewhere.

His lawyer has (or will soon) officially request that all charges be dropped due to sketchy and poor testing/handling procedures.

Sh*t, don't I wish. :-)

Nah, just one of those times where the "real world" aspects of life get the better of you, you know? Heavy deadlines at work and all that.

I didn't realize there was such concern, otherwise I'da popped my head in to let everyone know I was OK.

Thanks, all.

Welcome back, Tim. :) You missed only one TdSS ride, but also a few other rides not sponsored by the Sugar Shorts ladies. We were wondering about you yesterday. Glad to hear you're back on the bike.

Thanks.

I'm back on the bike... but let me tell you, if you aren't consistent in your riding? WHOO BOY will you pay for it. I feel like I lost six months of training in the last few weeks.

More impetus to work harder, now. :-)

Hi Tim,
What is your pseudo-hilly route through La Habra Heights? I live in South Whittier but ride with OCRR and was looking for a training ride closer to home (which La Habra Heights would be).

The drive to Irvine for OCRR rides in 20 miles, sometimes I just want to ride from home.

Best Regs,
Rick / OCRR

There's two: the "current weakass" version, and the stronger "I'm on top of my game" version. Unfortunately, I don't remember all the street names; tonight from home I'll MapQuest it.

The "current weakass" version starts at Santa Gertrudes and Whittier, heading north. Just before it banks to the right and becomes West Road, make a left, and make a right on the street that goes up to La Serna High School. Bank around La Serna to the left, go up to Mar Vista and make a right. Go up that hill to the top, and come screaming down to the other side of La Serna where you will retrace your path to Santa Gertrudes/West Road. Take West Road over to Hacienda Blvd., cut a U-turn, and go back to Santa Gertrudes and Whittier. Then go home because you're tired, out of shape, and really really far from on top of your game. Heh.

The "I'm on top of my game" starts at Fullerton Road and Whittier Blvd. heading north. Make a left on Skyline and climb a pretty intense incline to East Road. Take East Road over to Hacienda, Hacienda south to West Road, West Road to the little road right after it banks south and becomes Santa Gertrudes where you'll make a right. Go up past La Serna to Mar Vista but go left to Colima. Take Colima over the hill to Hacienda, and make a left on... crap, some street I don't remember that goes to Turnbull Canyon Road. Go up and down Turnbull to Painter. Take Painter south to Whittier Blvd, and Whittier Blvd. to home.

:)

I used to live right off of Turnbull Canyon, on Orange Grove. Once you're back on top of your game, I think you should lead a group ride on this route. Sounds like fun.

When I'm back on my game, if I lead a group ride on that route, it would provide two return routes: one straight over Whitter back to the starting point at Fullerton, and the other back over Turnbull, back over Colima, back over West, back over East, and back down Fullerton.

That would be a grueling ride. :-)

Welcome back Tim!

Rick@OCRR 09-11-06 10:22 AM

Thanks Tim,
I await the Mapquested version of both, and yes, I would like to have Turnbull in there somewhere!

OR you could go through Carbon Canyon, through Diamond bar, over Pathfinder, up the backside of East rd, throught the heights, over Colima and onto hill repeats on Turnbull. That is a fun ride.

Shaddup.

:-)

EDIT: AngryRooster is my brother, and gets to ride for 2-3 hours per day, everyday. So we hates him, precioussssss... hates him.

This place is cool, various topics. Various discussions in different regions. Bike forums.net Cannot be beat:) .

Extort 09-16-06 06:46 PM

it sounds like AngryRooster needs to get himself a hen so that he does not ride as much.

then again, we now know why he is called 'AngryRooster'....

He's already got one. She rides too. We used to ride together a lot -- the three of us -- but not so much anymore.

My brother, though, is on a different plane of existance when it comes to cycling. We'll all take off together and he'll drop us like we're climbing and he's descending. Then we meet him at home.

:-)

The socal forum is full of crazy people. Is this the message you want to send the rest of the country??
