Reaching for 3000

I've had my OCR2 for the past few years. The first year I rode about 1200 miles on it. Year number 2, last year, I set a goal for doing my first Century so as I trained, I started a log and kept track of the rides. From January 1 to Dec 31, I rode a total of 2,901 miles, with the final ride being a nice cruise with my wife in Solvang, a destination we seem to be favoring for get-away weekends.

Last winter, we set up my old Peugeot 10 speed as our permanent trainer bike in our workout room. Great news for lousy weather days but then it makes it too easy to stay indoors on sunny but cold ones! So, I did a lot of Spinervals early in the year. This impacted my outside total.

As of today, I'm still a bit behind last year's pace, by about 45 miles, at 2,153 miles. If I can eek out a 250 mile month, I'll be even then have to push for the extra 100 miles for 3,000.

Thankfully, I got out early this morning and knocked off 16 miles. Rain and thunderstorms are now in the forecast for our area...a few drops already were falling in the Conejo Valley.

So, pushing pushing pushing, reaching for 3,000. [Don't actually know why, as it's just a number!]

Have a fun Sunday, everyone!

Sheldon

How far do you live from your workplace?

If you live a moderate distance from work and want to pile on the miles commuting is a good way to do it.

A 30 mi. r/t commute 3 or 4 days a week will get you 3k miles easy. That's not even including your weekend fun rides...

I do ride to work when I can. It's only 14 miles each way from here to the West Valley. Was tough to do over the summer because the afternoon ride home at 4:30 frequently had me on the bike with temps in excess of 100 degrees. I can only do a few days a week as I take our daughter to school on the days my wife works. Having to be at work at 7:30 means a 6:15-6:30 departure which is also tough now as it's dark. But, it's a good idea! May have to try a few more shots at this before the time change.

I'm hoping to reach 4000 myself. This is my worst year so far out of the last 8 years maybe. But I'm at 2607, so there is a god chance I can do it!

Gina is at 2361. Best year since she donated a kidney to her son about 5 years ago!....I think it's the new bike!:D

Come on, Sheldon, you can do it!! I bet when you do all the Forum Girls will give you a kiss.

I'm at 2,400 ish my self. I also have ran around 200+ miles earlier this year but now i am running again. I am in a good battle with Mr.Beanz for miles this year, kept up with him for the most part i will wait until winter months to make a move for first:D .

Update: Oct 18:

Midway through the month, I've hit 2300 miles. I'm nearly caught up to last year's total, and need about 80 more miles by the end of October to be even. Usually my Saturday morning rides are longish but the next two weekends, our daughter has soccer at 8:00 so I can't ride with the group. Well, managed to get in 12 miles after work today...got to do more!

try to fit in some small lunch ride if you can. I hammer out 18 miles at lunch, usually done in 55-60 mins pending on how many red lights I get. It's a easy way to bump the miles up, intervals and keep you going for the rest of the day.

Good luck and keep it up:D

Great idea. That's what I'll be doing the next two days! My lunch time circuit is about 14 miles.

Update:

Well, just a few weeks to go until the end of the year. Unfortunately, I'm not able to find the time to do the long rides with everyone so I have to do lots of short ones!

With 3 weeks remaining, I am 180 miles short of my goal of 3000 miles for the year. I just need to average 60 per week. Easy distance but when you factor in work, weather and family obligations, it's going to be a struggle. Last year, I was 100 miles short. I can beat that but don't know if I'll be able to knock everything out in time, especially as I posted in other threads that our daughter's soccer team has been advancing through various post season tournaments on weekends.

Ok, forecast for this week looks good......

You can do it Sheldon! Great job on your goal so far!!! :D

deanp 12-11-06 11:18 AM

Keep after it, you'll make it. I'm shooting for 3000 myself next year. I just went over 1000 miles on my Trek that I got mid-August. I averaged about 280 miles each month for Sept-Oct-Nov, so 3K should be attainable for next year.

Keep pedaling!!

Scootcore 12-11-06 11:23 AM

you are almost there!!! three weeks is plenty of time to knock out 180 miles!!!! i passed 3k a few weeks ago...felt good...

ADlBOO 12-12-06 04:00 PM
