I need a stem...

I need a short threadless stem, preferrably 70mm or so, for the bike I'm putting together for my son. Any help? None of my LBSes have anything below about 90mm.

That sounds like mtb category where ppl needs/wants a very short stem. Why don't you try a mountain bike shop? JensonUSA seems to have a few; the stems are quite chunky looking though.

Sorry, I only have a free 110mm.

If 90mm is the shortest you can get, any chance you can get a 90mm at an extreme angle? That and compensating for the angle by redoing the spacers would give a shorter effective reach.

That's what's on there now, and it's got some insane rise on it. Smaller Trek and Specialized bikes have what I'm looking for, but no one seems to regularly stock them.

That's what's on there now - it's actually less than 90mm but shoots up to the sky like dammit. If I can't find what I'm looking for I can adjust that up or down with spacers as needed like you said, but I'd rather get the right thing if I can.

I know that Nytro had a box full of stems for $10. I was going to stop by there on my ride tomorrow and congratulate George on completing the 508. I'll dig through the box, if I find one I can pick it up, just pay me the cost and actual shipping. I've got a couple 80's or 70's but they're in use right now on my kids bikes. I actually have a 1985 Terry Road bike 43cm with a 700c/541 front.

Here you go... save some time..

I doubt you'll find one stocked locally. Try aebike.com for stems, like this.

Not sure; I think it is a 6 deg. 1 1/8" threadless. The stock one that comes with a C'dale R1000.

[EDIT]Yep, it's a 6 deg.
