group ride policies?
 

i was just out on my loop and started thinking(i know..scary) - what if we were all out on some big ride and someone actually got hurt?

"look at the view!"

"hey, is that dog hair?"

"yeah, looks like it. wonder how he got down there."

"dunno... was he wearing a red jersey?"

"no, i think it was white."

"yikes. maybe we should check on him."

"i think he's sleeping. hey, dog hair - you sleepin'? wake up, sleepy head."

*moan...*

"hey, who's leg is that next to him?"

"oooh. yeah, ouch. let's call someone."


anyway, should we require people to submit emergency contact info just in case? maybe have everyone's info on a coupla sheets of paper and designate one or two people to carry it?

Good question. For the Pie ride in January, we did submit emergency contact info which was printed on the back of the route sheet. For bigger rides, one or two people with emergency contacts sounds like a good idea. If we're going to do lots of group rides, it's not that hard to do, and though we hopefully will never need it, if we ride enough, it's only a matter of time before some incident (hopefully minor) occurs.

I carry my ID, med insurance card and ICE numbers (In Case of Emergency) in a small clear plastic ID holder in my jersey.
Also I have my cell programmed with a couple ICE numbers...as I understand EMTs, paramedics, fire, and police are trained to check a victims cell phone for any ICE numbers...
someone please correct me if that is wrong....
But that is probably still a good idea on a group ride anyway!

Everyone on a ride should exchange cell numbers, and if everyone stated where their emergency contact info was located then that would be sufficient.

In my seat bag there is always a copy of my Drivers License and Medical Insurance card. I have also included a list of emergency contacts and their phone numbers in case anything really bad happens.

Also, I am trained in CPR, First Aid and hopefully by the end of the year, Triage (stabilization techniques)

uhm.... ya.... *looks sheepish*.... extort brought this up WEEKS ago and i was supposed to add a sentence or two to the "upcoming rides" thread asking people to give emergency contact so i could compile a list that could be given to the ride "organizers".....

bad me.... i never did that....

i can do it now.... it won't be ready by tomorrow.... but i can start one that can be used for future rides for anyone who wants to be included on it..

for the record... both hubby and i wear the necklace road ID's... and each has the other's cell phone listed as e-contact among other info....

(not that it would do any good on GMR... no phone service! i know this from experience when he had his blow out and i was freaking out wonder what the he!! happened to him!!!!**********)

I carry an expired Ca driver's license in my seatpack. If something ever happens to me and someone needs to figure out who I am, all they gotta do is look in my fanny!:D

I leave my CA ID card in my saddle bag.

I have an ID sticker on my helmet and laminated piece of paper with my name, contact #s and blood type.

road id products are awesome...ive been wearing the ankle dealy with my info on it for sometime no...no reason not to, absoloutley no reason...

I always carry ID plus old health care (out of date but has info on it) card.
Cel Phone should have "ICE" entry with #1 contact info.

all you folks who carry your ID and med card on your bike are supposing someone is going to be there to go thru your bike to find it. You should always put in on yourself. I put an expired DL, med card, money in a baggie in my jersey. Just remember your bike doesn't go with you to the ER.

I agree with bigdraft, putting your ID on your bike probably won't do any good. I have a friend that was hit by a car. Her bike was tossed to the side. Her helmet was removed and tossed to the side. Her clothes were cut indescriminatly for the EMT staff to treat her injuries. That is their only concern. So, the Road ID sounds like a good idea as that will likely remain.

totally forgot about the road ID thing. i usually just carry my DL, CC, and some cash wrapped with a rubber band.

just ordered a road ID bracelette, though.

i've read many, many times that it is best to WEAR your ID.... that sometimes you get separated from your bike... so ID on a bike does you no good in those instances.... i also made sure to have phone numbers... not just an addy or a name.... i want someone notified IMMEDIATELY! not after my info is run via DMV or some similar source!

I worry that if it's in my jersey pocket, that they won't be able to get to it if I'm laying down on a stretcher...

I wear the dog tag style Road ID. If they're not working on a part of me where they will find it, it's probably not life threatening.

I normally carry just my cell (wife's number is 1st in PhoneBook), my license, my insurance card, and $20. Now that it's frigid, and I'm wearing long sleeves, the chances that an EMT will look for a RoadID wristband are as good as them going through my pockets and finding my ID.

Eh...I'm not a jewelry or 'things hanging off me' guy. No necklaces, wristbands, anklets or anything like that. Maybe I'll get a tag for my nipple ring.

But the tag could get caught on your jersey and you could end up with a torn nipple. :eek: Ouch. :p
