My little guy at the Tour de Poway

I know this is a late pic, but here is my little guy at the Tour de Poway. He's thirteen, pretty strong and into biking.

Great picture! How far did he ride?

Gavin's getting his road bike for Christmas and I'm thinking we'll do one of the routes at Tour de Palm Springs.

Very nice. Do they still have free classes at the San Diego Velodrome? I know the program is still alive at Encino and ADT. He might like that.

He DOES look fast. That's exactly what I told him when I saw this pic. He told me that he cranked out almost the entire 20 mile ride standing and pushing as hard as he could. (I'm sure there is some thirteen year old embellishment in this version. )

Good idea. I should sign him up. I took two velodrome racing classes there and they were so fun!

My boy did the 20 miler. We also took him on the Tour de Palm Springs with us last year. I think we did a 35 mile option. It was too hot. And there was not enough food and drink. Also lousy roads causing many flats. But maybe it was tough cause I had two griping kids (and a semi-discontent wife). Get the picture? But *I* had a great time. You probably will too!

Sounds like a blast. I have to see where Gavin is with his riding by then, looks like they had several options for shorter rides.

nice pic, I hope for many more years of riding for him. If he can hammer out 20 miles on the MTB, he'll be blazing on the skinny slicks of a roadie.

Actually he did the tour de poway with a friend (and friend's dad), while I went more hard core and met up with him at the end.

They are/were Thursday afternoon at 3pm. They only do them during Daylight savings time. My 13yo daughter has been doing the Cyclo-vets Saturday rides every now an then, along with the SDBC C ride. She's to the point she can crank out 40 miles pretty easily. The son of one of the guys who rides with Cyclovets is 12yo and has knocked out 165 miles solo so far. He rides stoker on dad's tandem which used to belong to Arnie Baker. Floyd Landis was the stoker on it, the stoker position on that bike is his little temple as that's where Floyd used to ride.
