My friend needs a lawyer...

He all,

Maybe you know about my buddy that got in an altercation with a truck about 2 months ago, well he now needs a lawyer. He tried to be amicable with the other guy and saw his lawyer and of course they lowballed him big time. I know there are some on this forum that are involved in bike rider advocacy groups and know of lawyers that specialize in accidents involving bike riders.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can PM me if you want.

PS He's going back to work next week and he's up and walking with a cane (very slowly).

Thanks for the reply. Do you know people who have used him?

I directly know of one person (on the reference page) who has used him for a bicycle accident case, and I have heard of a couple of others second hand.

Yes and no. I know of folks who have used him but I can't give any glowing recommendations. He is well known.

Personally I'm not a fan of giving up a claim to an attorney. They don't always have the clients' best interests in mind. Since I'm in "the business" if your friend would liek to discuss his claim with me, I might be able to give him some direction and guidance. He can PM me.

One time my wife got sued from a car/car crash. We felt our insurance company attorney wasn't doing a good job of representing us, so we got our own attorney. Case was settled for the max limits of the insurance policy. We found out later that insurance company attorney was just weeks from retirement.

My experience from friends (for car/car crashes) who have tried to be "nice" with the other party is that they were screwed. I would imagine it being worse for a car/bike crash. But I would defer to Pam's judgement over mine, as she is in the business.

Like Pam said, I can't give any glowing recommendations. I guess one can never truly be happy after the lawyers get involved and take their cuts.

He has consulted with the Orange County Chapter of the MS Society on cycling issues we've had in the past.

You're right, it sucks to have to get caught up in the legal system in any way, but if you must and you're gong up against a shark, you need a bigger shark just to protect yourself, cut or no cut.

Thanks!
