So how tough is this proposed ride, really? Does intermediate refer to condition of rider, or experience? On the MTB, I've got one fairly well, and the other not so much : ).

I do hope to make it, if it isn't too technical crazy.

no, no. sorry, I guess it did look that way. I should have explained somehow that that was an edit to a post where I was asking if the start time had been changed. i read the edited OP and realized my post was a little insistent. I said something like (in sarcastic nasally voice) 'i kinda need to tell my sitter'

intermediate refers to milage, and rider experience/confidence. I won't lie, some of the trails ARE intemidating, but ALL are very doable.

Hey Mo, this is ONE trail you NEED to ride!!!! I'll have to take you up on another weekend, the DH's there are a BLAST and very fast switchbacks. The last DH we went down was Meadows and that lil trail kicked butt. Very fast switch backs, sharp blind turns that you have to rail through and leaving you dive bombing into the corners with late front braking to get your frill factor in It would be fun just to climb that and keep doing repeats on that bastard

bleed it like you bleed your brakes on the car, same thing. If you EVER remove the front or rear tires, you NEED to put a shim (to mimic the rotor) in between the pads so it does not compress and your brakes and $hit when you get to the trail.

Nope. The extent of my car-working-on-ification has been ripping out the entire interiors of my last 4 cars to install a nice stereo. I've changed the spark plugs, once. I've taken a wheel off, once. I've cleaned my K&N filter, once.

My rule of thumb: Never take the time to learn to do yourself what you can pay someone who already knows how to do it.

I've done almost everything to my last cars. Motor swaps, headgasket, timing belts, tranny swaps, clutch jobs, rear end swaps, snapped axles. I was never afraid to tackle a job. I did my own clutch job w/o reading anything, just ripped it out, swaped the clutch plates and all and bingo. All simple. I never had the money to PAY someone to do work I can do myself. Plus that was considered "upgrade" money to pay for labor.

Have a couple of kids and see how much free time you've got to throw a wrench on the car...or how much money you've got left for upgrades...or how much you really want to work for the fun of it.

I've ridden most of the trails. I consider myself to be low intermediate on both skills and endurance. Some of the trails such as the main trail Wood Canyon and the flat singletrack - Coyote Run are very doable and a blast to try. Some of the trails are just a grind, such as Cholla or Mathis up and some are very technical and may require some thought before trying. Mathis both up and down is what I consider to be intermediate-advance. Trails like Rock-It, Meadows is more Advance and some like 5 Oaks is Advance-Expert. Use your judgement.

It's one of those things... if a person has good skills and is strong they would probably think something like Cholla is easy but for a newbie or someone working on strength it is hard, both up and down. Once you get to the "back side" of the Park, things become more advance.

Ok.....I'm picking up the jerseys from Paul during the week but I'm torn about doing this ride simply because that would mean making the trip down to the OC and back to L.A. three times like within 24 hours.....the mtb ride, the party, and the burrito ride. If I do this ride, of course I'll bring the jerseys along for all those involved.
