I Am My Grandmother

"I've fallen and can't get up!!"

So, there I was, having a good time introducing my kids (6th grade middle school students--I teach phys ed) to the fun game of floor hockey. I'm even playing with them. We're having fun. Then, somebody's stick gets caught between my legs as I'm running across the floor. Oops...my stick is still in my hands, I don't think to let go...ouch, I land smack on the front right side of my chest. Ow!

I thought I caught myself in time. But no. (Ever notice when you're falling, you can't let go of whatever is in your hands at that moment?) I'm sore all the rest of Wednesday. Must have done a nice contusion to my pectoralis majoris. But it hurts deeper than that now.

So,...it looks like I possibly cracked a rib (haven't taken x-rays...friend M.D. said not a lot to do even if). Breathing deep is fine (no punctured lung), but stretches the area and causes pain. I can't bend over too well (stretches the area), and can't do a push-up

I rode home from work on Wednesday and to/from work on Friday. It's possible. Really only feel pain when I'm stopping at a light to stand up. I took Saturday, Sunday and will take Monday off Trying to rest it and let it heal as much as possible. But I need to commute to work Tues--Fri (about 16mi round trip minimum).

I used to play college football for Pete's sake! Never, ever had any trouble/weakness with chest--it's one of my largest (exactly) strengths!! Am I going to break my hip next?! I am my own Grandmother.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Bruised/cracked ribs heal quite slowly, unfortunately. I remember blinding pain when I laughed, coughed, sneezed or turned over on it while sleeping. Good luck and heal fast!

By the way, it sounds like someone deserves a 2 minute minor penalty for tripping, if that helps at all.

I bruised a rib a while back. Man, did it hurt for about a month.

I did it while riding at night.... Looking down and not up. Boom, ran into the back of a Toyota Pickup.

Bike was OK, but I imapled my right side rib cage into the rear left of the Toyota.

The Toyota was ok, but I was

There is not a lot that can be down for a broken or bruised rib. Motrin IB and time to recover.

I cracked or bruised a rib while mountainbiking (went over the bars and landed on some rocks). Didn't know I did it until the next day when it hurt to laugh. Bad news: there's not much they can do for it. Good news: It will heal fairly quick and on its own.

You might have what I had a while back, which was called costochondritis. It's a partial tear in the cartilege which connects the ribs to the sternum. Mine was from a hit to the shoulder in a touch football game a couple of years ago. Hurt like mad to breath or twist the torso at all. I couldn't even sit up in bed without so pretty rough pain... just had to gut it out.

You might want to take some glucosamine chondroitin to help improve the healing as much as possible. Mine didn't fully heal and I've had some periods of inflammation since then.

Sounds like you bruised your dickfor.

ps. I sincerely hope you handed out detentions for all the punks that laughed at you. I'm guessing about 25-30, right?
pps. I'm joking. Getting hurt sucks. Getting hurt with witnesses sucks worse. Getting hurt in front of a class full of smartass kids has to take the cake.

Ummm...no...no detentions. It was an honest mistake and I was even laughing at my stupidity.

Nice kart! My co-worker and his buddy just got into karting.. they got Birel's with 125cc rotax motors. I wanna get into it but decided I would get back into MTBing before karting so that I could actually fit in the kart
