Saddle Eating Shorts

Has anyone experienced a seat that tears up your shorts. I have a Fi'zi:k Arione saddle with the little vents on the side. These small, gill like indentations are ruining my shorts. I placed some scotch tape over them on my last ride. I believe it helped. The seat is extremely comfortable, but $%@* those shorts are expensive.

i think you'll fnd that just about any seat with stuff like that or any kind of stitching will tend to attack your shorts. my old flite gel did it, and my specialized avatar REALLY had something against shorts. now i just have some generic ass buster seat that gets along nicely with the shorts.

It might not be the saddle. Right after I got my new saddle I found my shorts were getting destroyed in 1-2 rides - very expensive. It turned out the the problem was that the saddle was so narrow that the velcro strap holding my saddle bag to the seatpost was rubbing my shorts. I would have sworn it was the saddle. The previous saddle was just a hair wider and prevented that. I removed the velcro post strap from the saddle bag and NO wear anymore.

I had this problem with my Selle San Marco chewing up my Italian Bergamo shorts. Also had the problem with the saddle bag velcro, but trimmed it to keep my shorts inseam from hitting it. Ended up getting a new Selle Italia SLR which is one piece leather with no top stiching. It solved the problem and is a much better saddle than my Selle San Marco.

Electrical tape stays on the saddle for quite a few rides. I replace it when it gets a wrinkle. Are you sure it's not the saddle bag or it's velcro seatpost strap instead of the seat causing the problem?

Hah I have the same problem I have some gel shorts and one day when I was riding the gel started leaking through the holes made by my seat. My wife said I had butt buggers on my arse.

It's good to know I'm not alone. Here's a general reply to all of you. I'm gonna check and see if the velcro from the saddlebag has something to do with it. I thought about elcectrical tape, but I wasn't sure if the tape would snag due to its thickness vs. standard scotch tape... I'll try it.
