I'm in the house with the heater blasting and that's where I'm staying! My four year old keeps asking me to go out to the truck to get a toy he left in there last night and I can't bring myself to go outside.

I like to think I'm up for whatever challenges there are and I can gut things out in most circumstances.

But I moved from Wisconsin to L. A. for a reason. Cold weather sucks.

Where's that year round 60-70 degree cali weather we all love?

All those folks who did a century in that weather are crazy! I mean I can last an hour every day running in the evening, but nothing more than that.

Was 34 here this morning at 7:30am. We blew off our ride. Looks like a gym day today.

I'm wondering about Volt, ME, and Jason (and maybe others) on Baldy. I can't imagine how freakin cold it must be.

I'm thinking the same thing about those guys and also not feeling too bad at all about pulling an ovoleg on them. We went out yesterday at 8:30 from Orange to Featherly and back, only 25 miles and said, DONE. We were going to go on to Green River but one of the guys pulled his back out just turning around to look behind him, there was just NO warming up. There was also such a strong head wind that we only averaged 13mph going out and since my buddy was really hurting at the turn around point, we only averaged 20 coming back, we could have easily done 25 with no problem.

Maybe I'll give Volt a buzz later and check on them. I hope I get cell reception from under this heavy, down comforter.

I think I have a new "40 degree to ride" rule I just came up with.

I like that 40-degree rule. Let's state it more formally:

"At the time of departure, the tempature must be at least 10 degrees above 40 degrees in order to embark on said ride. If this tempature is not reached, coffee and cinnabuns must be consumed by each rider within 30 minutes of the proposed time of departure. In the event that cinnabuns are unavailable, breakfast burritos may be substititued."

    Ah, another possible substitution!

I propose an amendment to the 40-degree rule.

It was 35 degrees when I went for a walk this morning (I'm not able to ride yet) and I loved every minute of it. I really wish I was on the bike though. Weather this cold is so rare around here that I really enjoy riding in it. I'm the opposite with the heat though.

it was even colder this morning then it was yesterday when I rolled out, geez, it was brutal. I think it was like 27 or something silly like that. I rode for about one and a half hours and then cried uncle and came home. Now my truck won't start. I'm beginning to get tired of this stuff.

It was 28 degrees when I left this morning for my ride. By the time I got back, 3 hours later, it was a toasty 44 degrees. This was the first time in the Los Angeles area that I had to be on the lookout for black ice. Whenever there was water run off, it froze!

I had bought some PI tights and it worked very well for the ride. On top, I was wearing base layer, jersey, pull over and a windbreaker. My body wasn't cold and I didn't overheat. The only problem I had with the weather was my feet, hands and face! I think I need winter gloves. I have PI lite full finger and the wind cuts right through them. As for my feet, I wear Specialized mountain shoes and the ventilation works really well... so well that I thought my feet were going to go numb!

Other than that, it was a great ride this morning!

I'm still in my flannel pajamas, fuzzy socks & slippers with a beanie on. The heater's on too! I don't want to change because I'll get cold during transition.
