Who's doing what ride this Saturday?!

I know some of you are doing the San Diego Brevet this Saturday. I wish I can do this ride but my work schedule and driving time to the event and back makes it practically impossible for me to participate in this event this weekend.
I will most likely do a local hilly century ride with M.E. and Joel (magicant).

Barring something coming up at the last minute, I plan to ride the brevet. Gotta play host for the visiting BF'ers, after all.

Hey Sal.....I tried riding straight up Fargo a few weeks ago on my mountain bike. I rode maybe 20 feet before my front end started to float off the pavement, even with my weight as far forward as I got. I think with enough attempts up that hill I think I might be able to make it to the top. I'm thinking of installing a smaller diameter front wheel on my mtb next time.

hey George, i'm trying to climb it on my Gios (compact cranks) lowest gear is a 34x25.

On my other Gios (the steel one) my lowest gear is a 39x29.

I'm thinking of putting the 29 cassette wheel on my compact crank bike. Dunno if the small cage derailleur will accept it though.

One would think that as long as you don't cross chain, you should be okay. And you most definitely won't find yourself cross chaining on Fargo St.

I'm playing hooky on Friday, so will ride up Baly Rd a bit. So Saturday, we will be on the SART trail as well as Sunday.

Prolly an easier pace on Saturday to save some legs for Sunday

m.e. and I'll be starting in Sherman Oaks, to Calabasas (Dickens etc. to Wells Drive), pick up Mulholland Hwy past Rock Store then down Potrero to Las Posas, PCH to Latigo, up to Mulholland and back track to home (maybe going up to the Orange Line for a more casual ride back).

That's the basic idea - it'll be close to 110 when all is said and done. It's similar to my regular route but I've never gone up Latigo - I always go down PCH to S. Monica and back over Sepulveda.

Montrose Ride for me. I'm a bit like Pavlov's dog at feeding time when it comes to my Saturday rides. For me it's a fun, fast and nice social ride.

The Brevet is 80 more miles than I want to do. So, no...Team Defection will not reunite tomorrow. Also, according to SuperSwami's Top-Ten list of "things you need in preparation for an Ultra"...I don't have any of it, and don't want to change my tires out. And, my neck is still sore...And, I'm a bloated mess...And, It's going to rain all over you...

I just checked the route...IF (big if) I decide to join you, I would probably hitch on at the Church on the corner of Hale and Harmony Grove, then ride all the way to the Couser Canyon/76 turn. The Brevet turns North on to Rice Canyon, but I could continue on 76, then just take Old 395 back to Escondido.

Toporoute-ing it comes out to about 70 miles from/to my house...we'll see.

So that's 25 miles into our ride then (see, I'm studying the route sheet like a good aspiring ultra rider ) sounds perfect to me. When do you think that you'll decide?
