Tour de Femmes - Interest Gathering Thread

I've had several people on here ask me if I'd be willing to coordinate a kinder, gentler ride than the ones I normally organize. The main reason is that they have girlfriends or wives who would like to join but who are presently riding at a less aggressive level. Therefore, I propose the Tour de Femmes. This ride would involve no more than 40 miles, little to no climbing and an eased pace (I’m not kidding either, no hammering whatsoever). I am open to suggestions on a route (i.e. you OCers who know a great beach path route, please let me know). I think going south toward OC or in between is best in terms of finding a flatter yet pretty ride, and would be a compromise in terms of meeting. This ride will be followed by lunch/brunch somewhere near where the ride begins/ends.

This is an interest only thread. Based on the responses I receive, this ride will either take place or not. So please speak up! Gentlemen, ask your femmes who don’t come out due to intimidation about this ride. I’d love to meet and encourage them as I remember starting road cycling just three years ago very vividly. If not for the encouragement of others, I wouldn’t be as crazy, obsessed and nutty as I am now. Oh, wait a minute…don’t tell your femmes that last part.

ALSO, ALL WOMEN TAKEN OR SINGLE ARE INVITED AS ARE ALL MEN (TAKEN OR SINGLE, ANY DENOMINATION, SIZE, AGE (OVER 21 OR ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT) ON HERE. HARDCORE GALS, COME USE THIS AS A RECOVERY/SOCIAL RIDE, PRETTY PLEASE! ANY WOMAN LURKING, PLEASE COME OUT. WE'RE A GREAT GROUP!

OH, OOPSIE...APRIL 8TH IS THAT EASTER THINGY. SO...ANY DATES ANYONE WANTS TO SUGGEST???

ME...The Whittier Narrows ride might be nice...especially since less experienced riders get spooked in traffic, this is a nice quiet ride......actually some of us experienced ones do also!
Only hard part is back up the dam....and thats walkable for anyone who cant climb it...
And I think its fairly central??

This is a great idea! So far my wife's longest ride is just over 30 miles, so 40 is very do able. If the ride works with our schedule, we'd love to join you!!

No, but you do have shower, brush your teeth and wear clean cycling clothes. Also, if you scare the women off, you will be banned from every future ride.

OH, for cry-eye! Thanks, Tiff, I did not realize that at all. Well, I guess for now I need interest and date suggestions! Sundays please, if possible, since that is generally the days for recovery for most folks.

It is the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox.

fabulous idea, ME. i'm in!!

also, you veteran people, it really does help to have you around, even on an easy development ride. you can help the newbies learn how to ride in a group (a very different skill set from riding alone), and set an example of road safety and etiquette, and just kind of let us younguns have an ideal to shoot for. We always model what we see, so having experienced riders along will only help the ride be more successful.

our club has started a similar program. since it doesn't look like the two rides will conflict, I'll invite the gals in our club to come check out the BF ride!!

Thanks, ME!! You're the best.

big hugs.

the Velodrome Phoenix, cautiously thinking about transforming (temporarily anyway) into a roadie.

Caveat: Tracie hasn't actually said she would join but I am sure she will when I ask her. Her max is usually 30-35 miles so this should be doable That is of course if M.E. guarantees that there will be no hills. She will be bringing one of these to check:

BTW - Tracie isn't "intimidated" by long hard rides as such. She just thinks we're all nuts.

If it's on a Sunday, I'm sure Gina would like to go. SO what if you don't like me, you'll love Gina. She's a sweetheart, but I come with the package. I'll even wear a flower in my hair if you let me go too!

For the Tour de Femmes, a selection of Violent Femmes songs would seem appropriate.

Drew -- men were specifically invited (you know ME -- is she going to let the opportunity get past her?). See post #1
