Mt Baldy Saturday March 24th

A few of us are riding Mt Baldy to the Lifts (some will just go the Village)
this coming Saturday March 24th
Meeting @ Encanto Park @ 8am.

Anyone interested in joining?
Exact route to be determined at start (a friend is planning the ride, I am just recruiting riders!)

Thanks!
Karen

I'm on another ride on Saturday. But you guys have fun up there! Karen, I noticed that you are now not doing the 25th ride. Are you and Tony considering watching the Fargo Hill Climb? If so, would you guys like to meet up with the group and ride there?

i was thinking of doing gmr to mt. baldy on saturday, but... not that early. My friend is throwing a big party friday night, so i might need a little longer to get ready/dragged out to ride... maybe leaving the covina area around 11 or so...

Is this ride happening?

If not, I'm just riding the Montrose route with a couple of buds. I need to weed my back yard in the afternoon and still need to modify my mountain bike.

Good ride! Good ride! Pics later. Great riding with Karen, Laura, Christie, and Doug!.....and extra credits to Karen, Laura, and Doug for continuing all the way up to the lifts....while I had some grilled cheese sandwich and fries at the lodge while I waited for them. I haven't had the chance to rebuild my broken Campy wheel yet so I rode my fixed gear today so that was my excuse for not attempting the lifts. Good enough.
Word was, according to a bunch of other cyclists we met at the lodge, they officially closed GMR to cyclists and were citing them so we didn't take that back down. I decided to ride Baldy Road straight down as I was pressed for time but the rest took the same route back to Encanto, back across East Fork.......

Triple that. I suppose it was inevitable though.

I rode GMR this morning. GMR was closed to bikes at about 4 miles from the gate at the bottom of the hill. Most riders were riding the 4 miles, turning back and doing it again.

I was told by a crew member working on the road, GMR will be closed to bikes Monday through Saturday from 6:30am to 6:30pm. GMR will be open to bikes on Sunday (according to the crew member). The guy told me the road work will be going on for 2 months.

Thanks for coming out for the ride George!
George is SOOO STRONG on the fixie...my goodness..amazing.
It was a beautiful day, a bit cold @ the start but made for an awesome day of riding. AND
I MADE IT TO THE LIFTS!!! Thought i was going to die!! At times It was sooo steep I could barely go over 4 mph. Going down from the lifts, OMG. I am not a fan of steep descents, so that was not fun for me!!
As George stated they were citing people @ Big GMR, so we took the same way back, down little GMR,
East Fork, 39.
There was a ton of debris on little GMR, we saw a windshield broken all over the rode, then pieces of cars, motercycles everywhere it seemed.
My total ride was 74 miles with close to 9000 ft of climbing....
GREAT DAY!!
Thanks again George for riding with us!!

CONGRATULATIONS Doug, Laura & Karen for making it to the top! :-) I had such a good time yesterday!! My first time to Baldy Village. I'm glad I only rode 2 miles to the ski lifts. My knees aren't happy at all today. Ice is my best friend ;-) Once my 'climbing muscles' get stronger it'll be less stress on my knees. I'll have to re-evaulate whether or not to climb to the lifts next time. Other than that very small portion, I REALLY ENJOYED that ride! Thanks Karen, Laura, George & Doug!
