I need a coach

For my first season racing, I've been riding and attending a lot of races recently. I want to improve my riding ability to its maximum so I think a coach would be a good place to start.

What are some good coaches around the OC area? I want a good coach, but I also have to keep in mind my budget, so nothing too pricey.

The problem with that sugestion is that all "long time" racers do not know the proper way to train for a new person to the sport, and cause lots of burnout quickly. A coach is always the best way to go.

Very true, someones natural talent to ride fast doesn't necessarily give them talent to teach proper training technic. If you're cheap, buy some books.

I don't know if Tim Roach is still coaching. I've heard he's a bit of a jerk, but he gets results.

I know my old trainer still coaches, but he's up here in Los Angeles. Alan Bean if you care.

I suggest a season of racing before investing in a coach. You will learn a lot of the basics on your own and from your fellow racers . A private coach is a very expensive proposition. Join a team/club in your area. Racing is a team sport.

Now I know there is such thing as a Coach Roach.

BlackTie

I have been racing for a while and on occassion I have used coaches, teammates, training software etc.. or the school of hardknocks.

The racing scene in SOCAL is very different than other parts of the country. For example great weather, means the racing can be very competitive from Jan till Sept. Too long of a season for you to focus on every event. This means you need to etablish target events

If you havent done so, I would suggest that you invest your money and sign up with a local club depending on where you live. I raced Cat 5 for a few months before hooking up with Lightning Velo. Ride with the team and they will help you with training , racing , and nutrition.

Coaching is too expensive if you do not have specific goals suchas increasing muscle endurance, increasing power, 40K TT , doing well at State.

What you need is more experience before you know what your limitations are. Climbing ? Sprinting ? Pack position ? etc.

Good luck

lol that's exactly what they called him. He coached people of all ages, one of them being my age who got a silver medal in the 13-14 National Champ sprints, and his sister who won the 10-12 National Champ omnium.
