So I'm coming to SoCal...

...and I can't wait! I'll be coming in October 12th (Friday, for those of you too lazy to look at a calendar ) and leaving the 17th (Wednesday). Jschen has been kind enough to try to hook me up with a bike, so hopefully some of you would like to join me/us on a group ride (or two... or more)! I'd LOVE to meet up with some of you!

Where are you flying into? Sounds like SD, but Jschen is all over the map down here...

Let us know so that we can plan something in the neighborhood...

Also, flats (beaches or bike path) or mountains (3-12 miles uphill at 4-7% grades)?

No, silly. If she fits my bikes (and based on preliminary info about how her recent fitting went, she should) she will ride Vivian. If not, I'll try to find someone with a spare bike willing to loan a bike. Or beg Casper (owner of UC Cyclery) to borrow a suitably sized bike.

Extort, we're looking at GMR to Baldy village as a potential ride. Not set in stone, though. Maybe we'll climb a PV hill and take in ocean views instead.

She's coming from flat-as-a-board Omaha. I don't think she cares for the ocean but rather ride in real mountains...

I'm so glad you can make it out, April. Jason told me you were coming and I will join if possible on any ride you do. I do think a GMR ride would be a great one for you to get a taste of the mountains out here. The group is very supportive and we will all welcome you!

Extort - I'm flying into San Diego, but will probably end up being all over the place. I'll be happy riding the flats and the mountains... but coming from "flat-as-a-board" Omaha, I can't promise I won't die off in the first 10 minutes.

ME - thanks!! I'll probably need all the support I can get!

I've seen UC Cyclery lending out bikes to people riding SDBC Saturday rides; not too sure whether they're prospective buyers though.

I've also seen a few nytro rentals (Cervelo's) around the area. They're easy to spot since they have a large label/sticker on the fork.

Jschen has relationships with both; not sure if he can get you free/discount rentals.

I was just in Omaha and there are a few hills so it is not 'flat as a board', 'flat as a board' is out near North Platte...
And I'll be sure to bring to tow rope just in case.

Yeah, Omaha is hillier than most people think, but it'll be interesting to see how I'll fare on the mountain-type roads.

Hey, can you bring that tow rope anyway, and just tug me along? That'd be great, thanks.

Ovoleg: Pearl Izumi Attack shorts on sale for $52 at REI right now. I just picked up a pair. Stock up before we have to see you like that again!

Unless you want red or blue shorts like that guy in the road forum. I'm surprised you haven't chimed in on that thread yet.

So you were an infant the last time you were out here.....so you wouldn't remember anything. I guess it's like coming out here for the first time...

Update: We'll probably ride Oct 14 in the vicinity of Palos Verdes. Details to be worked out soon, and then I'll start a ride thread. We'll probably also aim to have a OC or LA area dinner the night before. And presumably a SD area dinner at some point, too, seeing as April will be in the SD area for the majority of her stay.
