Rides out of Encinitas?

I'll be visiting Encinitas next week and would like to do a couple of 20-35 mile rides on the coast or east into the hills. Is 101 a viable route to use for going north or south as far as traffic? Any suggested routes east? Hills are Ok, but not high traffic. I won't have a car so need to start in Encinitas. Thanks

This is the best time of the year to ride here. The crowds are thinning and the weather is perfect. You can take the Coast Hwy north or south. if you go north and through Camp Pendleton, bring your ID and wear a helmet. This site has routes that start in Encinitas and Solana beach. https://www.fullcommitment.com/ - click on bicycling.

I don't know where you're leaving from in Encinitas, but my standard route is to take Camino Real north to La Costa, west to 101, and north to Oceanside. Just before you enter Oceanside, there's a little bridge, and then a lane merging on your right. Just take the left lane until you're sure it's safe to move to the right.

The minute you pass the sign saying you're entering Oceanside, look to get to the left again, and take the first street left to get off 101. Go 1 block west, then a few blocks north til you hit Cassidy, then a couple of blocks left until you hit Pacific. Go north on Pacific rather than on 101, because 101 thru Oceanside is a nightmare.

If you go southbound on 101 in Leucadia, don't be afraid to take the right lane. There's no bike lane, and if you don't take the lane, you'll be in the DZ most of the time.

Thanks!

That website is perfect and the details about getting around nasty spots are just what I needed.

Wave when you pass the first house house on the left and go 2 blocks before you turn right (Broadway).
