Any normal riders here?
Are there any normal riders here? Like people who ride cruisers or recreational bikes? Seems as though this sub-forum is not really for all Southern Californians but rather somekind of online playground for the "we know each other in person" roadie club.

You sure have a knack for condescension, whether explicit or implied.

Now go get therapy. It will help you better interact with adults. |
a good portion of us know eachother in person because of this subforum. i think that's pretty-much the purpose of it.

Normalcy is not what it's cracked up to be.

It does seem to be true that more people here are roadies than not , but only as a generalization. I don't see that as good or bad - it just is. The fact that many of us actually meet and ride together is a good thing, but if this is a club this has got to be about the least exclusive one there is. |

I would think that if you would like to do a recbike ride, you should organize one. I think we would attend. Gina has a Specialized Crossroads that she loves. She's always wanting to ride it, but needs the roadie to keep up. Really the problem is that posters don't take the initiative and do some organizing themselves. I know I'd rather let someone else (like Herb)!:p I don't think it's right to sit back and watch others enjoy what they love then criticize them. If you want a recbike ride, then post one. I think we would attend. I've always been up for a ride where the wives could ride along without suffering. There have been a few posted but the recbike riders don't commit or end up backing out. How is that the roadies's fault? |
If you don't like the rides offered, organize a ride to your liking. In my case, I won't travel far for a beach path cruise, but if one were set up in San Diego, for example, I would consider it. Just because I like the hilly rides doesn't mean I don't also like simply cruising around.

No one is normal. In fact, normal people are not normal. I guess you have to ask yourself what defines normal. I guess normal constitutes being one mold, and only one mold. Almost like a robot. I guess in that context, simple answer ... no. We all have different personalities.

Maybe it's a matter of the recrider being intimidated to show up and TRY a ride? I red the stories on this forum and thought I'd never keep up. I showed up and did fine. I thought I'd bring Gina along on some of the rides I felt she could handle, she did fine.
Matter of fact, she did a climbing ride and totally sucked compared to the others. But they were all supportive and congratulated her for completing the ride. I'm not sure I've ever been on a ride where a rider was abondoned. Might not be too much fun but that's the only way to learn if you you can keep up with the others. You might be surprised like we were. AND there are several good riders that double back and watch the others so you're never alone!:D |

if you keep feeding it, it wont go away....

if you ride recreationally, like beach cruisers, why would you join this forum? I'm failing to see the logic.

Thanks, but I am not a rec bike rider nor am I interested in organizing any sort of a group ride. Riding a bike is a very regular thing that I do and I don't ride for the heck of it but with a place to go. I don't need to lose any weight and I am in good enough shape. My question was simply to know if there are others on this sub-forum besides the "we know each other in person" roadie club.
We also ALL rode before were in the "we know each other in person" club. |

I do not ride recreationally but your statement goes to prove that is forum is not friendly for recreational riders. |

HHmmm......
I ride road often, but I've had some of the BF crew comment that I'm a Mt Biker. The fact is I prefer MTB because it gets me out and into the "wilderness", and I do use that term very loosley ( I can see a tract of home on the hill ). Once in a great while I'll post a Mtb ride, and one or two may show up, or not. You see, it's about fun, not labels. Come on out and join a ride. I thought I wouldn't be able to keep up, and on some ride I am on the back end, and there are always regroup areas, and never ridicule. But then at other times I'm near the front.....:D Don't call me a roady, I'm a cyclist. ( and that's only if you insist on labeling me :p) P.S. I've not purchased a beach cruiser. Thought about it but figured I would really never ride it. That's because I can more easily drive the 6 block to the beach if what I want to do is lounge on the sand. |
