OC cyclist Sandy Julienne passed this weekend.

Hello everyone,

I'm not too sure how many of you knew Sandy, but this last Saturday morning, the 15th, he was struck by a 18 wheeler while taking place in the food park ride.

I not only knew him as a fellow cyclist but as an uncle from whom I acquired a lot of influence and inspiration from. I lived with the man for a large portion of my life and I always saw the man as almost invincible. I mean, I've seen him walk away from some pretty bad accidents but he would always bounce back and be back in the saddle as soon as he could. I'm going to miss hearing his bicycle bell chime followed by the buzz of a freewheel as he approached the house and of course his common shouting of "pizza man!" as he traditionally rang the doorbell before entering.

Our Family would like to invite you to attend the services in honor of Sandy Nelson Julienne which will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2007, 10AM, United Methodist Church of Garden Grove, 12741 Main St., Garden Grove, 92840. After the interment, there we will be a celebration of Sandy’s life at the Fellowship Hall, United Methodist Church of Garden Grove. All cyclists feel free to come on your bikes and wear your jerseys. This is how Sandy would have liked it. Donations to help with the arrangements can be sent to the Sandy Julienne Memorial Fund at 12042 Blackmer St., Garden Grove, CA, 92845

Everyone ride safe and strong.

-Ian Julienne

I'm very sorry for the loss of your special "Pizza Man"...

We had a thread up here, but it's so much more personal for you to take the time to post here yourself.

I'm so sorry to hear about this tragic loss of someone who was obviously a dear loved one to you and someone who had the type of spirit you describe. Thank you for telling us a little about your uncle. May you and your family find comfort from the memory of his life well-lived during this difficult time.

Ian

I am at a loss on what to say. For some of us, rides such as Foodpark, have become an institution on Saturday. We may not know everyone's name but we know each face. The spirit of your uncle will live on through everyone that enjoys cycling (life). Whether it is road or dirt, recreation or competitve.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I'll ride tomorrow to honor him and his obvious love of cycling.

Hi everyone, I'm very happy so many people noticed and appreciated my uncle he was my buddy more than anything and also my favorite person. The memories are plenty and will keep me going but, our loss is great. You can't be expected to get along with everyone but we sure do try, a comman bond we shared."We love people" He was a lot of fun to be around as a kid, he was always the same when he showed up, always ready to joke around and play. He could be hiding behind a door, and you knew he was there but he would still scare the heck out of you, bust out with a laugh followed by a hug. One thing he like to say was "April fools day after". Classic!

He was as strong as he looked, you'd know that if you shook his hand "Ouch". He was also as gentle his voice. Unique in that, he had no restrictions... He did what he wanted when he wanted. He had a job not to long ago, he was with the company for at least a year (good pay) His boss told him that he would have to take out his earring. He said "Ok thank's and without a clinch, quit and a found another job, where he was very happy. My Uncle Sandy liked; Riding anywhere, reading, family, coffee, beer (pref. Guinness), darts, cute toes, sundresses in spring, and cute blonds with "furry thighs" hey those are his words. He was cool real cool!

I'm glad he was in love when he passed. For a few years we would go out every weekend looking for "love" but mostly fun we always ended up with a great story. One spot we use to hang out at is a bar in H.B "PERQS", I went years later with a friend, and met Annie b who I fell in love with soon after...When I told Uncle Sandy about her he ask does she have friends, I said "I don't know" But, she did and she was blond and cute, Susan b was the best thing that happened to him. They had very happy times, he loved her a lot. We shared a lot of stories and I know how really happy he was. Thank you! To everyone for your thoughts and prayers our family is so thankful. I heard there will be a ride a week from this saturday at the Food park, if anyone has any information please let us know E-mail "thefrogtree yahoo com" or post...

I Love you Uncle Sandy (:

Memorial Ride for Sandy Julienne

OC Roadie mentioned (in another thread - Bicyclist killed in Irvine) that there will be a memorial ride a week from next Saturday at Food Park?? Does anyone have any information on this ride? Also, is the date 9/29/2007? I know that the family and friends would like to attend or at least meet some people.

Anyway....any information you have on this ride would really be appreciated.

Thank you very much!
